With three sports-tuned engines across three distinct and separate models to choose from, XR exhilaration comes in a variety of forms.
At the core of each XR is a driving experience that is the product of the close collaboration between Ford and Tickford, Ford’s partner in performance engineering and vehicle dynamics.
The suspension system on each XR has been developed by Tickford to provide the perfect balance of sports handling and ride comfort. All models feature a fully independent double wish-bone front suspension, the same type of system preferred by many European sports and luxury cars. In the rear, XR6 VCT and XR8 are fitted with a special sports double wishbone IRS. Falcon XR6 has a performance-tuned Watts Multilink sports suspension. Each model is superbly equipped for wet and dry conditions with specially selected and developed low profile sports tyres with a unidirectional tread pattern.
XR6 models have 16 x 7-inch alloys. The XR8 boasts big, wide 17 x 8-inch aggressively styled alloy wheels with 235/45 ZR17 low profile tyres (optional on XR6 models).
In an XR8, your right foot commands 200 kW of power. It comes from a Tickford modified 5.0 litre V8 equipped with a performance camshaft, GT40P cylinder heads and roller rockers with low friction roller bearings, as used in Ford V8 “Supercar” race cars. High flow exhaust extractors are fitted to maximise breathing efficiency. The result is incredible low end torque, plenty of punch at the top end and an exhaust note that says it all.
The XR6 and XR6 VCT models are equipped with specially re-engineered and tuned versions of Ford’s 4.0 litre Intech OHC 6-cylinder engine. An aluminium alloy cylinder head with increased airflow and revised camshaft develops 164 kW for the XR6. The XR6 VCT (Variable Cam Timing) adjusts the camshaft timing in tune with the dual phase inlet manifold for greater torque at low speeds and 172 kW of exhilarating top end power.

A sports-tuned exhaust system completes the package. All XR models come standard with a quick-shifting 5-speed manual transmission. The optional 4-speed automatic transmission incorporates an 'Adaptive Shift' strategy that uses five shift maps to provide gear changes that reflect your driving style – from maximum performance changes through to more relaxed shifting. All XRs have the latest sintered metal limited slip differential, for extra traction under hard acceleration and cornering.
The XR control centre: where every little detail adds to the driving experience.
The contoured XR driver’s sports seat is sculpted to hold you firmly, comfortably. It’s a great driving position. In front, all the information you need is there at a glance, including the 240 km/h speedometer in a sports blue graphic display and distance-to-empty read-out. Every XR is equipped with driver and front seat passenger airbags as standard equipment. Front seat belts, with special pyrotechnic pretensioners actively restrain the occupants in an emergency and all models are equipped with a rear centre lap/sash belt.
All XR models are equipped with air conditioning and a powerful 100-watt stereo CD player. (Single CD, AM/FM radio and cassette system on XR6, dash-loaded 6-stacker on XR6 VCT and XR8.) For the ultimate, you can option the 250 Watt Premium sound system with 11 speaker elements. Key controls are on the leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The centre console has plenty of storage space for cassettes and CDs. The over-head console includes a sunglasses holder, all adding to XR’s big picture. You get power antenna, power side mirrors, and sports cloth trim. For its unmistakable feel and smell, Howe leather seat trim is available as an option.
