Oblong and Giant Geyser

(This is a excerpt from a post on the geyser listserv by Mike Keller, AmFac.)

Oblong Geyser erupted between 0800 on 2/2 and 0900 on 2/3. This is the first eruption this winter, and probably the first since early to mid November. There may have been another eruption from it since this one, but we are not 100% sure.

Giant is having hot periods again. The first hot period for Giant after its eruption last week was on 1/31. Most of the hot periods have been about 15 to 30 hours apart. There was one today at 1437. For the first three minutes only "Feather" erupted, but at the three minute mark the hot period got interesting. Mastiff, which had been barely in overflow, began suring up to about 5 feet, and all the vents on the platform began. After about 3.5 minutes of surging, Mastiff dropped and all the vents quit. There was a restart at 1449, about 6 minutes after the main part of the hot period quit. This is the first really strong hot period from Giant since its eruption. Grotto started at 1459. Most of Giant's hot periods have been within an hour of Grotto or post marathon.

Both East and North Purple Pools are superheated and boiling up about a foot above ground level. It is easy to see their activity from the boardwalk at Giant. South Purple is still in heavy overflow.
