Lakeshore Geyser Active

(This is a excerpt from a post on the geyser listserv by Mike Keller, AmFac. It was posted on February 11th, but that may not be consistant with the days that are described in the message)

Lakeshore Geyser at West Thumb is active. As far as I can tell, this is its first activity since 1971.

It was seen today by an Amfac coach driver (Mike Columbia), and I trust this source, erupting to about 5 feet from its smaller vent. For most of the winter, this vent has been heavily boiling. It is not known how long it has been active, or what the intervals between eruptions are running.
