128th Birthday Dedication

Composed by Cathy Wise - March 1, 2000
The 128th Birthday of Yellowstone National Park

She opens her valleys to us
So we can lay upon them and remember to just breathe
Her mountains are there before us
So we can view them and remember awe
Her sunsets fill the skies with breathtaking colors
So we can stand beneath them and remember life
Her sunrises greet us each morning
So we can remember to embrace every day

The majestic bison fill the roads and valleys
So we have a taste of what once was and what might have been
The wolves and grizz feast on elk calves in spring
So we are reminded of the fleetingness of life
The wolves howl at the moon
So we can remember the side of ourselves that is wild and free

Her views fill our eyes, our minds, and our hearts
She haunts our dreams
She is with us every waking hour
She taught the world the importance of wild things
For this I am grateful

Yellowstone renews our souls
May she live forever
