LET’S MAKE A DEAL SPECIAL:
EPISODE TAPED AT THE
ORIGINAL NBC STUDIOS!!
Yes, that’s right. In 1972 Let’s Make A Deal went back
to the original NBC studios to tape an episode for the syndicated primetime
run. Whether or not this was done for
Daytime is yet to be known. There is an
interesting story as to why this happened and it will be explained below. On this page you will see the deals used on
the show(not what happened), why they went back, and the credit roll. This episode aired on Game Show Network in
late February of 2002. Pictures are
coming soon to this page as well.
The reason why LMAD
went back makes sense when it was told to me.
Here’s the reason. Buick wanted
to premiere new car models on Let’s Make A Deal, but they wanted them to do it
in bigger facilities. The only place
possible, the original NBC studios. ABC
was much smaller compared to NBC. So
Buick paid for the move and some of the production costs and LMAD taped one
episode in 1972 in the original NBC studios.
Below here are the deals used in this show and the rules of the
deal. I will not tell what happened as
to spoil it for some of you who haven’t seen it.
Deal #1: Monty’s Instant Cash Machine
This deal made its debut on this special show. Jay Stewart came down the aisle with Monty’s
Instant Cash Machine. The Machine
contained an amount of money and all Jay had to do was push a button and(if you
kept it)you got the amount of money listed.
Of course, Monty made you a deal before he showed you the amount of
money coming up for you.
Deal #2: $700 for a car
One of the new Buick Models, The Rivera to be exact, made its way on
the LMAD stage for this deal. The deal
was done a little differently then normal.
Two traders competed in a pricing competition for $700. There were 4 items in this deal and they
were worth $100-$400. The two traders
priced the item and whoever came closer got the money, but this is how it was
different. If the two contestants
prices were the same difference from the actual price(example Trader #1 said
$1.00 and Trader #2 said $2.00 and the actual price was $1.50)then the both
traders got the dollar amount for that item, making it possible for both
traders to win the car.
Deal #3: Huge tube of Blistex
In the last deal of the evening, Monty came back with a tube of Blistex
containing(as usual)money. Monty picked
a trader and asked to hold the tube and not look inside while he made deals
with two other traders. Once the deals
were made Monty came back to the first trader he picked and offered him a lot
of choices for his deal.
I have just changed my mind. I
will once a week update this page with what happened in the particular deal,
just to keep you guessing and to see what you would do as well.
The big deal for the evening was worth $14,313(up to that point)the
biggest big deal ever given away.
Did somebody get the big deal?
Find out in about two months, lol.
Here is the credit roll for that particular show.
