Part 9
"You know, it sure is taking them a long time to get here," Kristen said the next night waiting for the guys to arrive.
"What are you so impatient about?" Cassie asked.
"She's anxious to see Nicky," Angela responded.
"Oh yeah that's right. Nick kissed her last night and now she has the hots for him."
"He really didn't kiss me. Just pecked me on the lips," Kristen said.
"Then why were you freaking out so bad that Nick kissed you last night?" Cassie asked.
"What does it matter? How about a change of subject." Kristen said. Just then there was a knock at the door. "OMG they are here. Do I look okay?"
"You look fine," Angela said opening the door. She greeted Brian with a kiss. "Did you bring the movie?"
"Yes we brought 'Cruel Intentions', Angie," Brian said.
"Great, can't wait to see it."
"Why do you three want to see it so bad anyways?" Brian asked.
"Hello! Have you checked out Ryan Phillipe in that movie? He looks gorgeous!" Kristen said.
"Oh yeah," AJ said. "He's the most gorgeous creature on this planet."
"I doubt that," Cassie said.
"Well who is then?" AJ asked.
"Let's not go there."
"Hey, I'm gonna get on the phone and order some pizza. Any kind in particular?" Angela asked.
"Cheese," Brian, Cassie, Nick, and Kristen answered in unison.
"Okay, that works. Cheese it is. But you know what. I didn't have time to go to the store to get sodas today since I was out with Brian. Can someone go and get some?" Angela asked.
'I'll go," Kristen said.
"No you won't," Cassie said.
"Why not?" Kristen asked.
"Because you will go and buy surge," Cassie said.
"So. There is nothing wrong with that."
"You're not getting surge," Cassie said.
"Why can't she just get surge?" Angela asked.
"Have you ever seen that girl on a caffine high before? I don't think so. Whenever she drinks surge or cappuchinos she starts bouncing off the walls and will drive you insane!"
"Whatever," Kristen said reaching to get her car keys. Cassie grabbed them before she got to them. "Give me my keys!"
"You're not going. You don't need to be going crazy with Nick around," Cassie said.
"Oh I see what will happen around Nicky boy!" AJ hollered.
"Uh forget it! Nick can I borrow your car to go to the store?" Nick looked at her questioningly.
"I have a better idea. I'll drive you to the store."
"Oh I see how it is. Then let's go." Kristen said.
"Make sure she doesn't get anything loaded with caffine," Cassie said as they walked out the door.
"I don't see why you won't let me drive," Kristen said getting in the passenger seat. "I did a great job driving home last night."
"Well it's starting to rain and the wind is picking up so it would be safer for me to drive this car since I'm more familiar with it," Nick said.
"Exuses exuses. There's no point in lying, Carter. I can see right through you." Nick just looked at Kristen and smiled. A couple minutes later they arrived at the grocery store. They went into the beverage aisle and Kristen picked up a twelve pack of coke and a liter of surge. Nick took the bottle of surge and placed it back on the shelf. "Hey! Why did you put it back?"
"Just following orders. Cassie said nothing loaded with caffine for you," Nick said.
"Cassie is not my mother and do you always follow orders?"
"Just ones that I know are for the good of other people," Nick said picking up another twelve pack of coke and taking the sodas Kristen was caring from her.
"Oh how sweet of you, Nick, not letting me carry the soday."
"Only trying to make up for not letting you get soda that is nothing but caffine."
"Hey we have to grab a bottle of ranch dressing before we go," Kristen said heading in that direction.
"Ranch?"
"Yeah."
"What do you need ranch for?" Nick asked.
"Hello. We're ordering pizza."
"Okay. I repeat. What do you need ranch for?"
"To dip the pizza in," Kristen said.
"Oh you dip the crust in the ranch. That makes sense."
"No, I dip the whole thing in it."
"Now that is just plain sick," Nick said grabbing the dressing and went to the check out line and started to pay.
"No it's not. It's really good. You'll have to try it."
"I'll think about it." Nick paid the cashier and grabbed the stuff and they walked outside. It was pouring down rain and the wind was really starting to pick up. "This is just great. I'm parked in the last spot. Here," Nick said handing the bags to Kristen. "You wait here and I'll run and get the car."
"Alright but hurry. It's getting cold out here," Kristen said standing there starting to shiver in her short shorts and spaghetti strapped shirt. Nick took off running towards the car. A couple minutes later he pulled the car up to the front and Kristen ran and jumped in the car. She looked at Nick and started busting up laughing.
"What's so funny?" Nick asked.
"You're drenched!"
"I see the thanks that I get for going and getting the car," Nick said. "But you don't have much room to talk. You're not exactly dry yourself." Kristen looked at herself and noticed that she was pretty wet to just from going from the door to the car.
"I'm sorry. Don't take it so defensively. Besides you look pretty cute all wet."
"You'd look pretty cute too if only your make-up wasnt running down your face," Nick said. Kristen looked in the mirror and started to clean her face with a kleenex.
"This just blew the whole purpose of getting ready today."
"Don't worry. You still look beautiful," Nick said taking his eyes off the road for a second to look at her. Kristen smiled at him. A huge crash of thunder made Kristen jump. "You okay?"
"I'm fine. It just got me off guard and scared me for a second. It's getting really bad out here," Kristen said as she saw the crack of lightening against the black sky.
"I know. It's raining so hard I can barely see the road."
"Slow down then please." Nick let up on the accelorater and continued the drive back to Angela's. It took them a lot longer to get back since the weather was so bad. "Wait here a sec," Nick said grabbing his jacket and getting out of the car when they got back. He went around to the passenger side and opened the door for Kristen. She stepped out and Nick but his jacket and arm around her as they ran to the door. They ran inside the apartment into complete darkness except for a few candles lit.
"What happened to you two?" Kevin asked.
"Have you taken a look outside?" Nick asked sarcastically.
"Good point," Kevin said.
"What happened to the electricity?" Kristen asked.
"It went out about ten minutes ago," Howie replied. Angela handed Kristen and Nick some towels to dry off with. Nick took his towel and wrapped it around his shoulders. He then took Kristen's towel from her and wrapped it around her.
"I'm freezing in these wet clothes. I'm going to go take a quick shower and change clothes so I'll be right back," Kristen said leaving the room.
"Well?" AJ asked looking at Nick.
"Well what?"
"Did you two hit it off while you were gone or do I need to make some more moves on her?" AJ asked.
"Oh come on man," Howie said. "Kristen is a very polite young lady. Let her be. She's not one of your flings."
"I don't have flings."
"You two need to stop trying to win Kristen," Angela said. "Personally I think that Nick has already won her heart."
"I agree," Brian said.
"I don't agree," Cassie said.
"Why not?" Angela asked.
"I've known her since the seventh grade. We have had more talks about Backstreet Boys then you guys can count and I definately say she would go for AJ."
"I thought Howie was her favorite?" Angela asked.
"He is but he doesn't want anything to do with Kristen," Cassie said.
"Hey, it's not that I don't want to have anything to do with her it's just she's very young," Howie stated.
"You know what I mean. But both AJ and Nick would like to have something to do with her and she will go for AJ. I'd give examples why but I don't want to put anybody down," Cassie said.
"I think you just did," Brian said as he saw Nick's expression of hurt. Nick was really beginning to like Kristen and he really didn't want to hear that she might not like him in the same way. They all went into the living room and sat around. Kristen came out with her wet hair brushed back.
"Very cute outfit," AJ said looking at her pair of white socks, winnie the pooh boxers and winnie the pooh spaghettie strapped shirt.
"I know ain't it?" Kristen said pulling a blanket out of the linen closet then walking into the living room. She went to sit on the couch that Nick was sitting in front of when Nick grabbed her hand and pulled her to sit between his legs.
"You still cold?" Nick asked her quietly. Kristen shook her head. Nick took the blanket from her and put it over both of them. Under the blanket Nick wrapped his arms around Kristen and Kristen leaned her head against his chest. Angela saw and looked at Cassie as if to say 'i told you so'.
"Well since the electricity is out and we can't watch the movie shall we do?" Kevin asked.
"I have an idea," AJ said.
"And that would be what?" Cassie asked.
"Well, anybody up for a game of truth or dare?" AJ said with a mischievious grin on his face.
