1999 was a very good year for Australian sports people; with World Cups, Davis Cups, World Championships and more World records than you could throw a stop-watch at...
Now it was the YES team's chance to do Australia proud by playing Volejbal against the might of the Czech's in the Armada Spasy's annual competition.

Look! there's Leah and Jodie in the green and gold and ready for action! >

And look there! Who is that? Is it a Captain of one of those Australian World Champion teams?
Is it Steve Waugh?  Is it John Eales? Is it Vicki Wilson??
Nononono, it's just Johnno.. they made him captain of the team because he reckoned he'd played volleyball before, which is a bit similar to volejbal.. Below is Petra being official, and some of the Aussie team enjoying a break between games.
Petra, roving ground announcer and official

The games were played on a grass court and a hard court just behind the Armada Spasy building in Ostrava. Teams came from as far as Krnov and Prerov (and Australia!!!) to take part.

Here's the Aussies in action, at the recieving end of another thunderbolt serve from the direction of the Czech Republic...
The Havirov team took things a bit tooo seriously, not only did they have printed team shirts, but also matching red shorts! AND they could actually play a bit.
Petra and Henk add up the results and tally the scores. The final was played between Ekumenikal (a mixed church team) and Krnov.
Krnov showed plenty of fight, and the mighty spikin' power of Lt. Alesh, but Eku took home the plate for 1999.
And the results are... well, look for yourself! Show 'em, Vanessa. Australia returned the excellent hospitality of the Czech people by letting them win every game... aren't we nice? Afterwards we found out that the Czech's have World Champions of their own, notably in Ice Hockey, and lots of good tennis players. Anyway, the Aussies had by far the best cheer squad on the day! So there!
