Chapter 12: Grandpa Kelly's Funeral

Grandpa Kelly died on March 4th. I left school at noon on the 5th, and mom, dad, Riece, and I all went to Neberaska. We stayed in Valentine for a night, and got to Winnetoon the next day. That day, we had the funeral for Grandpa Kelly. The funeral was at a park. The 2 picnic tables were covered with a US flag, and the preacher stood in front of them. He talked about Grandpa Kelly, read the obutaries, and read a couple of poems grandpa Kelly wrote. Then, a couple of vetrans folded the flag, and gave it to Kevin, my uncle. Kevin told them he didn't want the flag, and that the flag should be hung on a flag pole right in the park. Then we all went to the bar/resturant for lunch. The place was reserved for the family. After lunch, we all drove to the Missouri River, and threw Grandpa Kelly's ashes into the river. Mom, dad, Riece, and I went to Yankton, South Dakota and stayed there for the night. We stopped at Kevin and Marcia's house to talk to them for a while.

We got back to Casper the next day. It was about 5 PM when we got back. I went right over to the Hanson house, and talked to Tay and Zac about the trip. I did cry at school on the 5th about Grandpa, and Zac was there to comfort me. I wasn't feeling too sad after the funeral, but I was a bit sad. I did miss Grandpa Kelly. The Hansons knew what I was going through since they did lose their grandmother a few years ago. I was happy Zac was there for me on the 5th though. I went home for dinner, and just hung around the house. I did get on the computer, and chatted with some of my online friends about the trip, and checked e-mails. Then I went to bed at 9:30.
