Chapter 31: June 1st, Downtown Denver

In the morning, all of us were down in the lobby. Mrs. grooms told us what we were doing that day. We were going to downtown Denver to tour a place of our choice, then get the chance to do some shopping or whatever. The 9 of us decided we wanted to go tour the mint, and so did about half of the class. Others wanted to go to the firefighters' museum or whatever it was, Molly Brown museum, public library or some other places like that.

At the mint, we got to see how the coins were made. The tour guide told us about the 50 state quarters. One thing we learned at the mint was that about 60 million dollars were made at the mint everyday. Also, if they look through some of the coins from one batch and find some mistakes, they would melt the whole batch and start over. It was pretty interesting.

We went into the gift shop after the tour was over. I bought a coin with the Denver Mint on one side, and a small deck of cards with a picture of the building. Zac bought the coin too, and a pen. Then we left the shop. Walker, Jake, Mrs. Matson, Jo, Mrs. Moran, and some other chaperones and their groups went to 16th Street to do some shopping. Our group went to a bookstore, and I bought a book by Lurlene McDaniel there. We also went to some other stores. We then had lunch together at a food court. Then we walked around downtown Denver some more, and got on the trolly.

We got off at a street and started walking to Coors Stadium. We waited for everyone else to show up. The ones that were already there when we showed up was Mrs. Moran, Jennifer S., Nancy, Jody, Jo, and Megan. Everybody else soon showed up and we went in the stadium. A tour guide took us around, telling us about the stadium. We were on the top level, in the press box, in a locker room, and some other places. We also were able to sit in the Rockies' dugout while the guide talked about the field and dugout. The tour was really interesting and I enjoyed it a lot! I even took a lot of pictures at the stadium.

Everybody was in the gift shop for a while. Zac and I looked at everything. I then saw different kinds of baseballs. Autographed, and colored ones. I decided to buy an autographed ball to add to my collection at home. I bought the ball for $10, and now I have 11 autographed baseballs. Zac bought one of the colored balls, and a hat. Crazy 8, Zac, Walker, Jake, and I left the rest and went to the Pepsi Arena, meaning we would have to miss out on Dinosaur Ridge and eating dinner at Casa Bonita.

We arrived at the arena and met Tay and Ike there, along with some other people like body guards and such. Ike and Tay had brought the insturments that Crazy 8 would need for that night. We were doing a concert for Denver, and had given the whole middle school class tickets and backstage passes for the concert the previous week. We had talked to Mrs. Grooms and Mr. Gaither, and decided that we would give the class a tour of being backstage and all that an hour before the concert. So the teachers are going to have to do their best to get everyone out of Casa Bonita and at the arena by 6:30. Concert starts at 7:30 and should end between 9:30 and 10.
