Chapter 37: 8th Grade Graduation

The 8 of us in Crazy 8, Hanson, and Walker went over to the school about an hour early. We had to set up the insturments, and we practiced it once. Not only Crazy 8 was doing it, but Hanson was doing the song with us. We did change into nicer clothes before we got to the school of course. We then were set. The insturments were set up in front of the stage on the left side. The stands for the choir was in front of the stage on the right side. There was a microphone and a podium in front of the stage right in the middle. Barrett and Jeff were setting up the sound board.

At 7:00, the whole middle school class, past students, and families arrived. My mom showed up and had the camera set up. Dad showed up for the graduation too. We were all seated as Mr. Gaither and Mrs. Grooms talked about the past year. Then they had the past students stand up and wave or whatever as their names were called. Some of the past students there were Amy Shell, Beth, David and some others. Then they had the 4 original WLC students come up to the front and talk about their experiences. Those 4 students were caitlin, Hunter, Michael, and Kassie.

Then the 7th graders were in the front. They gave out special awards to the 8th graders. I got an award for 'Internet Queen' from Nancy. Zac had gotten an award for being the most weirdest and craziest guy in class. When all the 8th graders were awarded, then the 8th graders did their wills for the 7th graders. My turn came up, so I took the mic and started talking.

"My will is for 2 of my really good friends, Nancy and Jody. A lot of times they would come up to me asking me what a sign to a word was, and I would give them the sign. At recess, lunch, class time, whenever, we would sign to each other for fun. We called each other names in sign. Since they were so interested in sign language, I got them papers of signs,"I had said and gave Nancy and Jody both the packet of signs. Some of the 8th graders gave Mrs. Grooms a purple boa, and a resubmit stamp. Mr. Gaither was given a poster that said "and you thought you always caught us" or something like that, and a jar of chewed gum. Even though Michael wasn't a 7th graders, some of the 8th graders wanted to give him something. he got a small Britney Spears doll since he was a MAJOR Britney fanatic.

After the wills, the middle school choir did a song. I was in the choir along with Zac, Nate, Jen, and Amanda. Mrs. Nix was the director. We got into our positions on the stand. Mrs. Nix talked a bit about how this school year was the first year to do choir, and all that. Then we did sang "May Our Paths Meet Again".

May our paths meet again
As we travel on our way
May you always be my friend
As I am yours today
I know you must travel your road
As I must travel mine
But may our paths meet again sometime

May our paths meet again
As we strive to reach our dream
May your road be not as steep
As it may sometimes seem
I know you must travel your road
As I must travel mine
But may our paths meet again sometime. Oooooooo
May our paths meet again, sometime....

After the choir was done doing the song, we all went back to our seats. Mrs. Grooms and Mr. Gaither talked some more. Jody and Kate were at the front with the carnations and WLC pins. Half of the time, Mr. Gaither talked about each 8th grader as they got their dipolma. The rest of the time Mrs. Grooms did the talking. Soon all the 8th graders had their dipolmas and middle school dictionary that we had created.

"Alright. We have two bands that are going to do a song together for us. They had asked us if they could do a special song for our graduation, and we said they could, and so they did. The two bands together wrote a song and figured out who was doing what. The two bands doing the song are Hanson and Crazy 8,"Mrs. Grooms said.

Hanson, Crazy 8 and I got up and went over to where the insturments were. Hanson were going to play the insturments while Crazy 8 did the dancing. Ike strapped on his guitar, Zac sat behind his drumset, and tay stood behind the keyboards. Crazy 8 stood in front of the stage in the middle. The podium and mic had been moved so we could do our dancing without knocking anything over.

Hanson started playing and we started dancing. Tay and I then started singing the first verse together. The choruses we all sang together. The song was kind of slow, but it was a really good song. We did a great job doing the song. We had gotten through the song without any mistakes. When the song ended, there was an applause, and we all bowed. We then went back to our seats.

"That was a really nice song Hanson and Crazy 8!"Mr. Gaither said.
"And now, Mr. Gaither will be showing his slide show. He worked very hard on it. He spent many hours after school and on the weekend working on it. I got to see it and it is a really nice show,"Mrs. Grooms said.

Mr. Gaither set up the computer equipment and projecter. He then talked a bit, and started the slide show. There were pictures of the 4 original students when they were really young, some of the students when they were lil kids in classes, 1999-2000 pictures, etc... Then there the 8th graders' baby pictures with a recent picture of them. Some of the baby pictures were soo funny, but all were cute. Then the slide show ended. Most of the people had cake and punch. Mom talked to Jody's mom and to Jo. Then the 2 of us went to TCBY for some ice cream. We then went home, talked for a while, and then went to bed.
