The P.E.R.N Survey
(from The Chronicles of Pern: First Fall)
Dragonsdawn
The Dolphins Bell
(from First Fall; the events told in this short story begin after Dragonsdawn does but end before it)
The Ford of Red Hanrahan
(from First Fall)
The Second Weyr
(from First Fall)
Rescue Run
(from First Fall)
Red Star Rising: The Second Chronicles of Pern
Nerilka's Story
(the events in this novella run concurrently with those told in Moreta, however it begins about four days before and ends a while after)
Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern
The Masterharper of Pern
(This begins about forty years before the ninth Pass and ends about a fifth of the way into Dragonflight)
The Renegades of Pern
(the events in this book stretch from several years before Dragonflight until just after the end of The White Dragon)
Runner of Pern
(The events in this short story occur within the events in Dragonflight, a little while after the Red Star was bracketed by eye Rock)
Dragonflight
The Smallest Dragon Boy
(I'm unsure exactly when the events in this short story happen. All I know is that it is in the Ninth Pass, so I've taken a guess)
Dragonquest
Dragonsong
Dragonsinger: Harper of Pern
(the events in Dragonsong and then Dragonsinger run approximately concurrently with those told in Dragonquest, however Dragonquest begins earlier and I gathered that it ended some time after the end of Dragonsinger)
Dragondrums
The White Dragon
The Girl Who Heard Dragons
(A guess. The events in this short story are related to those told in The Renegades of Pern.)
All The Weyrs of Pern
The Dolphins of Pern
(This book begins in the middle of All The Weyrs of Pern and ends a little after it)
I hope that bit isn't too confusing :o).
A Brief Outline of Each Book
Dragonflight: Just before the ninth pass begins, many believe Thread is gone forever. The Weyrs are desperately underpopulated. F'lar knows the importance of a strong Weyrwoman and he seems to have found one in Lessa when she Impresses the golden Ramoth. United by their dragons and the certainty that Thread will return, they set out to prepare Pern for a menace it no longer believes in.
Dragonquest: Seven years into the ninth pass, and the Oldtimers are becoming a definite problem. There are also disgruntled Lord Holders, the re-discovery of fire lizards and the ever-growing interest in the Southern Continent, and things are getting complicated for Pern.
Dragonsong: Menolly loves music and longs to go to the Harper Hall. But girls can't be harpers, and Menolly's father is violently against the idea. She runs away and inadvertently Impresses nine fire lizards, and teaches them to sing.
Dragonsinger: Harper of Pern: Menolly's dream has come true and she is living at the Harper Hall. Her first week is filled with problems and uncertainties. All Menolly can rely on are her fire lizards and her love of music.
The White Dragon: The story of young Lord Jaxom and his white dragon Ruth, and their unusually deep bond. People believe Ruth is nothing but a runt, but Jaxom knows his dragon is special and together, they are destined to be the most important pairing on Pern.
Dragondrums: When Piemur's voice breaks, his future at the Harper Hall seems uncertain. However, the MasterHarper has other ideas for him.
Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern: Back in the sixth pass, a terrible plague is sweeping Pern and we learn the truth behind the legend of Moreta's Last Ride.
Nerilka's Story: In the time of Moreta, Nerilka is an overlooked daughter of Fort Hold. The plague takes her mother and sisters, and Nerilka becomes determined to escape Fort and her hypocritical father.
Dragonsdawn: The first settlers arrive on Pern before the menace of Thread is detected. When it starts falling, their only hope is some kind of aerial defence. Could the native fire lizards hold the answer?
The Renegades of Pern: Lady Holdless Thella is the most evil woman on Pern. Jayge Lilcamp becomes determined to get revenge on her when his family's train becomes a victim of her renegades. His quest leads him to Aramina, the girl who hears dragons, and eventually south, where all the action is.
All The Weyrs of Pern: The discovery of Aivas is the beginning of a new era for Pern. Aivas offers long-forgotten knowledge and skills, and most importantly the chance to destroy Thread forever.
The Chronicles of Pern: First Fall: Five stories from the early days of Pern as the settlers are forced north by the unstable Southern Continent.
The Dolphins of Pern: No one seems to know much about the 'shipfish', and everyone is too busy with Aivas to pay much attention to Readis, Alemi and T'lion, but these three know that the dolphins are special.
Red Star Rising: The Second Chronicles of Pern: Three hundred years after settlers arrived on Pern and created dragons, the Second Pass is about to begin. Much of the old technology has been lost, but the Pernese are preparing as best they can...with the exception of Lord Chalkin of Bitra.
The MasterHarper of Pern: The story of Robinton, the greatest Harper Pern has ever known.
The Smallest Dragon Boy: Keevan is the smallest of the candidates at Benden Weyr and is determined to Impress a dragon and prove his worth.
The Girl Who Heard Dragons: Tells in detail what happened to Aramina and her family as they fled from Thella, before her going to Benden Weyr and later meeting Jayge.
Runner of Pern: Just before the Ninth Pass begins, Tenna, a young runner, is completing her first Cross of the continent.
