The Runes of the Elder Futhark are divided into three groupings of eight each.
THE FIRST AETTIR, OR THE AETTIR OF FREY AND FREYA
Fehu Cattle- Wealth - Mobile property, financial prosperity
Uruz Aurochs - Strength, physical vigor and vitality
Thurisaz Thurs - Violence, conflicts and complexities of aggressive nature
Ansuz Aesir - Inspiration, knowledge acquisition
Raidho Riding - Journey, travel in physical and inner terms; life-style direction
Gebo Gift - generosity, exchanges, contracts and sacrifices
Wunjo Joy - satisfaction, happiness, recognition of worth
THE SECOND AETTIR
Hagalaz Hail - disruption by natural events and uncontrolled forces
Nauthiz Need - trouble, needs as opposed to wants must be overcome
Isa Ice - blockage, a standstill which may be good or bad
Jera Year - harvest, hopes and expectations; results of earlier efforts
Eihwaz Yew - enduring, resilient strength to deflect problems/difficulties
Perthro Lot-cup - concealed, the unknown or not yet revealed
Elhaz Elk - protection, luck through striving, success in a quest
Sowilo Sun - victory, success or other favourable circumstances
THE THIRD AETTIR, OR THE AETTIR OF TYR
Tiwaz Tyr - justice, success in legal matters, honour, leadership/authority
Berkano Birch - renewal, healing, recovery, regeneration
Ehwaz Horse - loyalty, status as it relates between you and others
Mannaz Man - Intellect, rationality, memory and tradition
Laguz Water - passage, primal waters of Niflheimr
Ingwaz Ing - Gestation, potential energy to gain strength
Dagaz Day - Awakening, daylight clarity; time to embark on new beginnings
Othila Property - Ancestral heritage
