ALWAYS AND FOREVER
Chapter Twenty-Two

Jack and Rose were on the train to Santa Monica, which Molly and Brian and Liz decided to split the cost on.

It was a second class sleeper.

Cora went with Ruth and Molly as planned.

They left about thirty minutes after Jack and Rose left town.

On the Train

Rose was sitting on the bed, with Jack asleep with his head on her lap.

Rose was stroking his hair while reading the newspaper.

One particular story caught her eye.

It read:

Caledon Hockley's New Engagement

On September 20, 1912, Caledon Hockley is to be wed to Amanda Langston. Caledon says, "Some people now say that I used Rose DeWitt Bukater, because of my new engagement. But I did no such thing. She and her mother used me, though I loved her dearly. I thought she loved me, but all she wanted was money. I mourned her death, and I heard her telling me to go on with my life, and that is what I did. I just miss her laughter. That was the most amazing sound anyone could ever possibly imagine. I do believe everyone will mourn for Rose in the coming years..."

Rose was shocked.

She couldn't believe her eyes.

"Amanda and Cal deserve each other. She was always playing pranks on me in boarding school, and she is just as materialistic as he is. I hope they enjoy their time together," Rose thought aloud.

Jack woke up about five minutes later, and rubbed his eyes.

"Rosie, are you okay?"

"Yes, dear. Just look at this," she said, as she showed him the article.

He read it, then said, "Do you know her?"

"Yeah...we have always hated each other. We went to boarding school together," Rose said, laughing at the memories of getting Amanda in her sleep.

"What are you laughing about?" he asked.

"Oh, I'm just remembering the time when I put red dye in her showerhead. Her hair was bright red for weeks!" Rose said.

Jack laughed. "Rose...tsk, tsk, tsk. I never knew you were that bad!"

"Well, I did what I had to do. Earlier that year, at summer camp, she put water in my suitcase. She was the biggest snob in the whole school," Rose went on. "She had blond hair and brown eyes. Almost all of the girls wanted to be like her. But Adele, my best friend, and I were the outcasts."

"Aw, Rose. I would have imagined you as the girl every other girl dreamed of being."

Rose smiled. "Thanks, Jack."

"I love you, Rose."

"I love you, too, Jack."

Jack kissed her on the cheek and lay his head back down on her lap.

Rose lifted his head and lay down with him.

He put his hand on her stomach.

And she put her hand over his and they fell asleep.

The Next Day

"Jack, darling. Wake up," Rose urged.

"No...I don't wanna."

"But you have to, dear."

"Why?"

"Because we will be arriving at Santa Monica today," she said.

"But not now."

"Well, Mr. Dawson, I don't believe the people of California would appreciate seeing you come off of a train half-dressed," said Rose.

"Argh..." Jack grumbled. "Give me twenty minutes."

"Fine. No more than twenty minutes."

"Fine. I love you."

"I love you, too, Jack."

Twenty Minutes Later

"Jack, get up," Rose said, while shaking him.

"Hmm..."

Rose then grabbed the covers and pulled them off of the bed.

"Get up!"

"You are so mean!"

"I know, but you love me," she said.

"Yep, I do," he said and stood up to kiss her.

"You...need to...get...ready," Rose said, between kisses.

"All right. Fine...I love you."

"I love you more," she said.

He walked to his suitcase and got ready.

An hour later, they arrived in Santa Monica.

"Rose? Are you ready?" Jack asked.

"Yeah. Let's go!" she said.

So they grabbed their suitcases and left the train.

"Jack, you know where the hotel is, don't you?" Rose asked.

"Um...we aren't going to a hotel."

"Then where are we going?"

"Um...well, I've sort of rented a beach house," he said.

"Really? That's wonderful!" she exclaimed.

She embraced him and kissed him.

He put his free arm around her shoulders, and they walked to the beach house.
