They stayed up all night, talking.
Rose still had no idea what to do.
"Jack, I--I had a dream. When I was at Molly's."
"Will you tell me about it?" he asked.
"Well, I was on the Titanic, but it looked like an iceberg didn't even pass by it. Well, I saw Mr. Andrews, and he told me that he saw the argument. He brought me to the rail, and told me to look in the water, and at first I didn't see anything, but then, I saw you."
"Y-you did?"
"Yes. You were holding my pillow on our bed. Mr. Andrews told me that I should be there for you."
"What did you say?"
"I can't. Not now."
Jack looked down.
"Why not?"
"Because I don't know if you're truly sorry, Jack. I don't want to be treated like this. That's one of the reasons that I left Cal."
"That's why you're with me? An escape from Cal? That's all I am to you?" he asked, raising his voice once more.
"No, Jack. You used to be everything to me. After this argument, you're just the father of my child," she said, with tears in her eyes.
Jack began to cry.
"Well, Rose, you're more to me than just the mother of my child."
Just then, the conductor yelled, "Next stop, Santa Monica, California."
"Jack, I--I won't be seeing you again, until you bring Cora back down. Leave me alone."
The train stopped, and Jack and Rose got off.
"Rose, please. At least let me walk with you to a hotel."
"Fine. Just don't talk to me."
"I just want to know that you'll be all right. That's all that I want."
"I'm fine. I'll be fine."
Again, a flood of memories overcame the both of them.
Rose stopped walking. She put her head down, and quietly sobbed.
This time, Jack came up to her, and she let him comfort her.
"Rose, please don't cry. I love you. You have no idea how much I do, my love."
"Jack, can we take an extended vacation, and rent a beach house?" she asked.
"If you want to," he said, as he pulled her away to look into her eyes.
She got lost in his deep blue eyes, and she kissed him.
Jack eagerly kissed her back.
"Oh, God, I missed you, Rose. The only thing that kept me going was Cora."
"I missed you, too, Jack. I--I told Molly that if you weren't there in a week, I would only see you when you saw our children."
"I'm sorry I didn't come sooner."
"Jack, let's just go rent a beach house. We can talk about it then."
"All right."
They walked to the rental agency.
They happened to get the same beach house they got on their honeymoon.
They walked into the beach house.
"All right, Rose. Let's talk."
"All right. Let me put these away first," she said, indicating their suitcases.
She disappeared into their room.
She came back, and sat by Jack on the couch.
"All right, Jack, talk."
"Well, Rose, I understand that I haven't been fair to you. The day when you left, I was drunk."
"You were? How could you?"
"Rose, I got chewed out by Molly already."
"Jack, you didn't seem late. I thought your boss changed your hours so you would be at work an hour later."
"Well, Rose, I told you that so that I could go out with some of my friends from work."
"No wonder. Jack, I trusted you! You betrayed me!"
"I know, Rose. And I am sorry."
"You want something more than Cora, our baby, and I. Something you can now have, Jack."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, I can't go back home. I can't."
"Please, Rose. Don't say that. We'll get through this. We will."
Rose stood up. "No, we can't--Jack!" She screamed in pain.
She put her hand on her stomach.
"Rose! Are you okay?"
"We need to get to the hospital!"
Oh, God. Is it the baby? Please don't let anything happen to my baby! Jack prayed silently.
The doctors rushed Rose into the emergency room.
They made Jack wait in the waiting room.
Five Hours Later
"Mr. Dawson?" The doctor came up to him.
"Is Rose okay?"
"Well, she was carrying triplets. But one happened to die. I'm sorry, son."
"Oh, God! Can I see her?"
"Of course, Mr. Dawson."
Jack walked into the room.
Rose saw him, and said, "Jack! I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
They began crying.
"No, Rose. It wasn't your fault. At least we have twins in there."
Rose forced a smile, as did he.
"I love you, Jack. I'm so sorry."
"Oh, God. I love you, too, Rose."
Jack held onto Rose, and kissed her over and over.
Jack and Rose were devastated.
It was almost Christmas, and they lost their child.
"Jack, never let me leave again," Rose said, once she got back to the beach house a couple of days later.
"I can't make you stay, Rose. It'll be up to you. But I promise, I'll never scream at you again."
"Thank you, Jack."
"I love you, Rose."
"I love you, too, Jack. Always and forever."
