It was Lovejoy.
He had invited himself in the room.
"What are you doing here? And how did you find out that I was here?" Jack asked.
"Well, sir, as you might know already, Mr. Caledon Hockley is missing. Would you happen to know where he is?" Lovejoy asked, with a sly grin on his face.
"Nope. Not a clue," Jack stated simply.
"Well, if he is dead, or I can't find him in the next twenty-four hours, I will know who to blame."
"What the hell? I haven't done anything of the sort!" he said as Lovejoy left.
Rose got back about ten minutes after Lovejoy left.
"Hello, sweetie. Mother has got Cora for a few hours, so we can talk."
"Okay. Well, what do you wanna talk about?"
"Well, Jack remember that night in the car?"
"How could I forget?" Jack asked, with a mischievous grin on his face.
"Jack, you are too cute! Well what I wanna talk about is...well..."
"Rose, don't worry. Just tell me. You can tell me anything."
"Well, I have to tell you this because you will notice it in about nine months."
Jack was shocked. He couldn't believe it.
"What? This is quite a shock! But I couldn't be happier! I love you, Rose, with all of my heart. I am so excited!"
"Really? I don't know for sure yet, though. I thought you wanted to hold off until we got our lives started. But I don't know for sure."
"Well I kind of did, but now that you tell me, I love it! We will have to go to the doctor once we get into town, but that's no problem. Oh, what about your mother?"
"Oh, she already knows...she thinks it's great!"
"WOW! I get three angels in one week!" Jack said.
She looked deeply into his eyes, as did he.
She thought to herself how amazing it was that they could communicate by their eyes and not their mouths. Well, sometimes.
