Chapter Thirteen
Rose and Jack had three more wonderful
children, but none of them took the place of their little Taylor.
Alex Hockley and Nicole Dawson were wed on
May 8, 1931, and two days later, Rose gave birth to Melanie Lynn Dawson. Rose
and Jack swore she looked exactly like Taylor.
John met his love when the Dawsons moved to
New York. At first, it seemed like Clarice Thompson was going to be the nice girl
down the street. But their ideas changed in 1935 when John and Clarice were
engaged. On April 8, 1937, John Matthew Dawson and Clarice Elizabeth Thompson
were married. The whole family was there, but Nicole and Alex left early. Twelve
hours later, Nicole had twin girls, Ally Belinda Hockley and Debbie Larin
Hockley.
Rose had a boy on February 10, 1938. Bobby
Scott Dawson was born but died three hours after his trip into the world. Rose
had a hard time with the birth. She had an even harder time when she had
Heather Lacey Dawson on December 5, 1940, but she and the baby survived.
The 50’s, 60's, and 70's went by fast.
One of Ally's children, Lizzy Dorinda Calvert,
had a special place in Rose and Jack's heart.
In 1990, Jack died of a heart attack. Rose grieved
for a long time.
In 1996, she told her story, and that night,
she died. She looked at the picture of her and Jack at a circus with their
children, and then, touching the picture, she said, "Good-bye."
She walked up the staircase and kissed Jack
as they went into the dark abyss of the sea.
