ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ON EARTH
Chapter Three
Two Months Later
Rose sat down in a chair. She looked at the
calendar on her desk with the number twenty circled on it. On the twentieth,
she and Jack would be husband and wife, so they were not going to see each
other for a week. Rose’s friend, Megan, was staying with her and Jack was
staying with Megan's husband, Jeff. She was nervous, and she knew Jack was, too,
because in two days she and Jack were going to be together forever.

Jack reclined in a chair and swept his hands
through his sandy blond hair. In just two days, he was going to marry the woman
he adored. Still, he was nervous. The one drawback was that Cal was in town,
searching for his only love. Just then, the telephone rang. It was Rose. She
had sneaked out and was calling from a neighbor's telephone. He had told her
the whole story about Cal being in town, but it was her turn to comfort him now.
She told him everything was going to be all right and his spirits calmed. He
had to hang up because Jeff was in the room. He told her good-bye and she told
him she loved him. They hung up, getting ready for the next two days.
