ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ON EARTH
Chapter Six

"Rose!" Ruth said. "Look at you! I mean—"

"I'm not going back with you, Mother," Rose interrupted. She had seen enough of her mother to last her a lifetime.

"Hello, Ruth," Jack said. She looked over to see the boy with Rose in his arms. She was going to do anything she had to do to make up to Rose what she had done to her.

"I don't want you to marry Cal. He is already married. He just wanted the diamond and to see you," she said after a long pause.

"I am not going to see him, no matter what you say. I will not see him," Rose replied.

“Track thirteen is now boarding. Please go to thirteen. Repeat, thirteen,” the three heard.

"That's our train, Mrs. DeWitt Bukater. Leave us alone. We want to raise our family the way we want them to be raised, not in high society," Jack said.

Rose went over to the telephone and called Megan and Jeff. Ruth looked at Jack, surprised at what he had said to her.

"Rose is having a baby and we want it to be just a regular kid," he said to her.

Her sarcastic reply was, "I didn't know." Rose came back over and took Jack's arm.

"Good-bye, Mother," she said.

Ruth was in shock. Those were the very same words her daughter had said to her on the Titanic. With that, Ruth walked off, out of her daughter's life forever. Jack and Rose walked slowly over to the train, which would take them to their new life in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
