ANOTHER CHANCE
Chapter Ten
"What did you
say?" Rose's head was spinning. She couldn't believe him. She would have
believed anyone else was Michael Calvert. Anyone but Caledon Hockley.
"I am Michael
Calvert. It's the name I use when I do my drawings. Mother and Father would
have a fit if they knew I was engaging in such a 'vulgar' activity. For that
matter, so would Tony."
"Who's
Tony?"
"My brother.
My twin brother."
"You have a
brother? Why didn't you tell me?"
"My brother
and I don't get along all that well. You see, he likes his brandy a little to
strong and a little too often. I thought it would be best if you two never
met."
Rose barely
suppressed a laugh. "You drink."
"I don't down
twelve shots in an hour."
"Well, I just
have one more question. Why are you doing this?"
"Because..."
his voice trailed off. "That's not important. What is important is where
you're going to stay, Rose Dawson."
"I have no
idea."
"Well, I do
have an empty room at my home, if you would like to stay there."
"Is this
another one of your 'protection' plans?"
Before Cal could
respond, a man came over to the table. "Phone call for you, Mr.
Hockley."
Cal followed the
man silently, leaving Rose alone in the restaurant.
She raised her eyes
to the ceiling. "Jack, I'm so confused. Is Cal telling the truth? Can I
trust him?"
Jack materialized
in front of her. "Hi."
"Hello,
Jack."
"You want to
know if you can trust him?"
"Yes."
"You're about
to find out."
"I don't
understand."
"Do you
remember what we were doing before the ship hit the iceberg?"
"We were
kissing out on deck."
"Before
that."
"The car. What
does that have to do with anything?"
"Rose, you're
pregnant."
