Based on some situations originated by James Cameron.
The year was 1924. The night was
still, with absolutely no breeze at all. Stars shone down brightly from the
velvet sky. It was chilly out for the summer, but that didn't stop Rose Dawson
Calvert from quietly stepping outside and laying herself down on the cool
grass.
It was the stillness of the night
and the brightness of the stars that had drawn Rose from her bed. It was well
past midnight, and she had quietly slipped out from the sheets without waking
her husband. Rose had checked on her two-year-old daughter to make sure she
hadn't woken up. Then out the back door and onto the grass, into the tranquil
night.
It was nights like these that
reminded her of Jack. Where the wind didn't whisper and the stars did all of
the talking. Rose closed her eyes and whimpered slightly. It had been twelve
years, twelve long, difficult years without Jack. She could still feel his
gentle hands upon her cheek, his lips upon hers.
Who can say for certain
Maybe you're still here
I feel you all around me
Your memory's so clear.
She remembered the night after
the party. Rose smiled to herself. That steerage party had been so
much...well…fun! It was so different from the stiff and courteous parties
hosted by high society, the kind she was used to. Afterwards, she and Jack had
walked out on the deck. They had been singing Come Josephine In My Flying
Machine and enjoying the stars. They had leaned against the railing of the
great Titanic and looked at the sky. She had spotted a shooting star, and Jack
had told her that he believed that it was a soul going to heaven. Rose had
liked that. She had also liked how his hand had brushed hers in the gentlest
way.
Deep in the stillness
I can hear you speak
You're still an inspiration
Can it be
That you are my
Forever love
And you are watching over me from up above.
Even though the wind did not
stir, Rose could still feel the breeze on her face as she and Jack stood at the
bow of the great Titanic. Their arms had been spread wide, like phoenix wings.
"I'm flying! Jack!"
Jack gently leaned his chin on
her shoulder and sang in her ear. His fingers began to intertwine with hers...
Rose’s eyes began to water. Oh,
Jack, she thought to herself. I miss you.
Fly me up to where you are
Beyond the distant star
I wish upon tonight
To see you smile
If only for awhile to know you're there
A breath away's not far
To where you are.
She had married, of course. Jack
had wished it so. He wanted her to be happy, to live her life. He knew he was
going to die when he let her up on the door. He knew he was sacrificing his
life for hers. That was what he had wanted. He had said so himself.
Rose cared for her husband. She
did. But it's not what I felt with you, she thought to herself. Rose
felt like she was being selfish, thinking like that. Her husband was
wonderful--warm and caring. He was a great father to her child. Rose loved him.
But she didn't love him. It was not the fire and passion and love that
she had felt for Jack, her Jack, her one and only.
Are you gently sleeping
Here inside my dream
And isn't faith believing
All power can't be seen.
There was one night that she had
not thought of him. That she did not see him in her dreams, feel his soft
touch. She still saw him everywhere. Especially in her daughter, whom she had
named Josephine. Imagine Rose's surprise when her daughter had kept the bright
blue eyes that all babies are born with. Rose didn't have blue eyes. Neither
did her husband.
But Jack had had them. Piercing
blue eyes.
As my heart holds you
Just one beat away…
Rose felt a tear slide down her
face. Then another. Jack. Jack had done so much for her. He had saved her. More
than once. What had she done for him? Nothing.
I cherish all you gave me
every day
'Cause you are my
Forever love
Watching me from up above.
"Oh, Jack," Rose said
it quietly, practically whispering. "There isn't a day where I don't miss
you. Do you miss me?"
And I believe
That angels breathe
And that love will live on and never leave.
Jack had never said he loved her
in words. But she knew he had loved her. He had shown the ultimate love, the
ultimate sacrifice, by giving his life for hers.
If only…if only…
Fly me up
To where you are
Beyond the distant star
I wish upon tonight
To see you smile
If only for awhile
To know you're there
A breath away's not far
To where you are.
She closed her eyes once again
and imagined his face. His ash-colored blonde hair that fell ever so sweetly
into his beautiful eyes. How he would brush it away. How he would smile at her.
How he would hold her hand, hold her, kiss her.
Rose felt the gentlest breeze.
But it was not a cold breeze, it was...warm. And soft. And beautiful.
"Jack." Rose smiled
sadly and sat upright, looking towards the heavens. "I love you, Jack.
I've never let go. I've never let you go."
I know you're there
A breath away's not far
To where you are.
The End.
