A LOVE WE CAN ONLY DREAM OF
Chapter Five

Rose's anger was increasing rapidly. She couldn't believe Cal actually said a thing like that to her! Cal could only stand there in shock, not believing what had just happened. Rose remembered that Jack was still on the floor, and rushed to his side.

"Are you all right?"

"Yeah. I'll be fine."

Then, Rose noticed that his lip was split and bleeding. She reached for the nearest cloth. She began to carefully wipe the blood away as he winced a little. Finally, she placed her lips against his, and they started to kiss passionately.

"Now, that makes me feel better."

"I hope it does," Rose said, as she smiled at Jack. Cal still stood there, not believing his fiancée would kiss another man so passionately when she had never kissed him like that. Suddenly, Jack looked in his direction, and began to shout at him.

"Now, you listen to me, you asshole! You stay the fuck away from Rose! Don't even think about coming near me or her, or I swear I will beat the shit out of you!" Jack then punched Cal in the face, knocking him out. "How does it feel to get a taste of your own medicine, Caledon Hockley?" he asked, as he grabbed Rose's arm and started to walk out the door.

"Wait, Jack. I have a present for Cal."

"What?"

"This," she said, as she threw her engagement ring on Cal. Jack smiled, and they walked out the door. "Jack, I think I should at least leave Mother a note."

"Do what you have to, Rose."

She then took out a piece of paper and a pen and began to write.

Dear Mother,

When you read this note, I will already be gone. I just wanted to tell you that I am fine. I will not marry Cal. I have fallen in love. Really, truly fallen in love with Jack Dawson. If you don't like this, I really don't care. Please leave me alone, and let me live the life I want to live.

Rose
