CAL'S LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCE
Chapter Five
Cal's mother snapped her fingers once more.
"Okay, Cal. You will find out the real
way I died. Not the way your father told you."
Eighteen Years Before
Cal was in his room, studying to get into a
fancy boarding school, the same one both his grandfather and father had gone
to.
His mother, Emily, was helping a maid escape
from the household.
His father called for Emily to come into his
study for a minute.
"Wait here, Sara. I will be right
back."
"Okay," Sara replied.
Emily headed up stairs, where Nathan's study
was.
"What do you want, Nathan?"
"You know what I want, Emily. I want you
to stop helping the help to escape. Now, go and get dressed. We have to be at
the Jones’ in an hour."
"No, Nathan. Not only am I not going to
stop to helping the help to escape, I am going to leave you and take the
children. I am getting sick and tired of your abuse," Emily said, as she
started to walk away. She was at the top of the stairs when Nathan grabbed her
by the arm, and said, "You will obey me, because I am the head of the
house."
Emily broke free for a second, but Nathan hit
her over the head with a heavy vase, knocking her unconscious, then carried her
to the bottom of the stairs and laid her face down on the floor.
*****
Cal looked pale when he found out the real
reason his mother had died. Not the way his father had told him.
"Father told me you died after being
attacked by one of the help."
"I know. We have one more stop before
your journey ends," Emily said, snapping her fingers once again.
