I scoop the little girl up into my arms and run forward with her. "A child! I have a child! Please, let me go with her. I’m the only person she has in the world."

In frozen remorse I watch as I am let onto the lifeboat. Remorse? Businessmen don’t feel remorse. They do what must get done...whatever it takes.

I hugged the child tighter and said, "There, there."
