Based on some situations originated by James Cameron.
"I didn’t let go,
Jack," Rose whispered. Her fingers traced the pictures lined up beside her
bed. "I flew an airplane, I rode a horse on the beach, I was an actress, a
mother, a wife. I didn’t let go, Jack." Rose slid gently into her bed.
"I even came back to Titanic." She laughed aloud.
The ocean waves rocked her to
sleep. A melody drifted to her. Come Josephine in my flying machine... Golden
light swept her away, away from her bed, into the sun. The warmth of the music
encircled her, caressing her worn skin. She began to float towards the ground.
Her toes eased themselves onto the smooth wood of the deck. There, leaning
against the rail, was a man. Jack. Rose took slow steps toward him. He smiled
as he faced her.
"You didn’t let go,
Rose," he said.
Rose smiled back, and said,
"No, I didn’t." She reached her hand out for Jack’s, but stopped
midway. She was still old. Laughing weakly, she commented, "And it
certainly has taken its toll on me." Jack reached for the hand that still
hovered in the air and kissed it softly. Rose felt weight lifting from her
shoulders, years of burdens and heartaches flying away. She reexamined her hand.
It was the one she had at seventeen. Crying joyfully, she moved into Jack’s
arms. The kiss they shared was slow and tender. When they broke apart, Rose
added quietly, "And now I have been handed the stars, the sun, and the
moon."
The End.
