ESCAPE
Chapter One
The four walls of the room seemed hypnotizing
as she stared at their blank expanse. How long have I been here? Rose
thought to herself. Six months exactly. I shouldn’t know that, but I have
taken great pains to see to it that I do. If I don’t know how long I have been
trapped in this asylum room, it will make escape that much more complicated.
Her thoughts were interrupted as the asylum
room door opened and a doctor stepped in. "Rose, you have a visitor."
She smiled smugly to herself. Of course she
had a visitor. She had the same visitor every week, and now here he was again,
right on time.
She had watched her wed-locked husband,
Caledon Hockley, waltz into the room many times before, yet every time her body
filled with the same dreadful anticipation. As he sauntered into the room this
time, she noticed how the light played against his dark hair and put in blue
streaks. Then, slowly, as he turned his midnight eyes on her, her mind played a
little mental flashback of how she had ended up where she was.
