ESCAPE: A JACK AND ROSE STORY
Chapter Twelve

April 14, 1912

Jack was holding Gabbie's hand in one hand and Rose's in the other. They were walking along the first class deck and people were giving them strange looks. Rose felt very self-conscious.

Jack saw someone familiar coming up to them. Elizabeth.

She looked Rose up and down and covered her mouth with one hand. "So this is your new lover? And her child," Elizabeth scoffed.

"Her sister," Jack said. "Go away, Elizabeth."

"You scared I'm going to say something?" she asked.

"No, I'm scared of what I'll say," he said.

"Go to hell," she said.

"Wasn't that where we went when we were engaged?" he asked.

She glared at him angrily. She opened her mouth to speak, but Jack silenced her. "Don't say anything," he told her and they walked off, leaving Elizabeth more angry than she'd ever been.

Rose looked down as they walked away from that evil woman. How could that woman be so rude when she hardly even knew her? How-Jack interrupted her thoughts. He touched her cheek softly. "What's wrong, my love?" he asked. She shook her head, saying nothing. And they continued to walk.

Jack was staying in his room until the ship docked. He didn't want Elizabeth near Rose so he wouldn't let Rose and Gabbie stay with him. Rose's cabin was too small for all of his stuff to fit. But they saw each other a lot. Practically all day. They'd made no arrangements of getting off the ship together and Rose was becoming more and more worried. Jack had been thinking about it, too. He did want to stay with her. He would ask her tonight. They walked back down to third class and Jack started to draw pictures of Gabbie, Rose and other people. Rose was in a conversation with Tommy and Fabrizio. He didn't pay attention to what they were talking about. He was either concentrating on the drawings or on how nervous he was about what he was going to ask her.
