ESCAPE: A JACK AND ROSE STORY
Chapter Five

Only minutes later...He walked her up to the first-class deck. He couldn't keep his eyes off of her.

"Why were you crying last night?" he wanted to know.

"It was nothing...well, it was everything. I spent all of my money on this ticket and I only have about ten bucks left." she said. "When I get to America, I won't have enough money to feed Gabbie. That's my main concern. And finding a job in America is not easy." she sighed. "And don't think I'm asking you for money."

He grinned, more at her pride than anything. "A little grouchy, there. Huh?" he asked, smiling.

"Jack, you don't understand. You have money. I'd be happy with your pocket change. You don't understand what its like being poor. You never will." she told him, frustrated.

"You never know. I could go bankrupt right now. Would that make you feel any better?" he joked with her.

"Jack..." she sighed, smiling slightly.

"Sorry...but... If I kissed you would that make you feel any better?" he asked, seriously.

Without looking at him, she said, "You're joking again, aren't you? Don't do that. I might think you're serious."

"I am serious." he told her and she finally looked into his eyes. Yes...they were indeed serious but loving. She almost melted.

"Um... ahem.. well, that wouldn't be appropriate, would it?" she asked, trying to escape his gaze, but to no avail.

"To thine own self be true." he whispered. "It won't be inappropriate in my heart."

"It-it won't?" she asked, breathless. "Jack, what-what if your fiancée--"

"Who cares?" he asked. "Don't think that you can just kiss me and go back to her. If that's what you're planning to do, then stop." she said, straightening her back.

"No milady. That won't happen. I wanted to go back to you last night. I want to stay with you now." he said.

"Wh-what if I don't--" she was cut off.

"You don't want to stay with me?" he asked, worried.

"I don't know Jack..." she whispered. "People are starting to stare."

"It doesn't matter." their bodies were inching closer and closer together. The heat from their bodies was overwhelming. They loved it.

"Jack, don't we need to get ready for dinner." she asked, her voice barely audible.

"Mmmhmm."

"Then lets go." she told him.

He sighed. Did she really not like him the way he liked her? Or was she just...confused?

He took her to Madeline Astor's room. Molly and Maddy were going to get Rose ready for dinner.

Jack went back to his stateroom, his thoughts roaring.
