AN ETERNAL LOVE
Chapter Two

He, ever so gently, undressed her. To him, she seemed to have no flaws; she was perfect. She removed his suspenders and unbuttoned his shirt. She kissed his bare chest as she unbuttoned his pants. He wrapped his arms around her like a warm blanket. He, all of a sudden, scooped Rose up into his arms. He carried her over to the bed and began kissing her stomach, slowly working his way to her breasts. As he kissed her breasts, she thought of their first time together, in the back seat of the Renault. He had been so gentle, so loving. He was trying to recreate that moment now. And he was doing a perfect job of it...

He kissed her mouth with growing passion. Their breathing became heavier, and their desire greater. So many years of being apart had left Jack so lonely. He went in and out, in and out, again and again. She let out soft moans of pleasure as his breathing became heavy. He, too, let out moans that pleasured Rose even more. As they went on, their moans became louder and their desires were satisfied...they were one again.

Time as we know it passed. But to them, time had no meaning. They only knew the warmth and passion in their kisses...

With one final push, it was over. He laid his head on her chest in exhaustion, much like he had the last time in the Renault. She closed her eyes and began to think of the short time they shared. From the moment they met, until the time she let go of his hand, had been the best time of her life. And she had never let go of it, not even when she had married her husband. It was love, no doubt, but different than the love she and Jack shared.

"Rose?" The sound of his voice brought her back into reality.

"Yes?" she asked, sweetly.

"I’m sorry," he said sadly.

But whatever for? she thought.

"For what?"

"For not being able to be there with you. For all the times that I could have..."

"Shh." She put her fingers over his lips to silence him. "You were there with me, Jack. I never felt your presence leave. I knew you would always be protecting me. I just knew."

He smiled weakly and tears came to his eyes. This was the woman that he had sacrificed his life for, and it was a worthwhile sacrifice, indeed. He had watched her over the years, making sure she was strong and healthy. He was there for her meeting with John Calvert, for their wedding, and for the birth of each of her four beautiful children. After Titanic, she had seemed to evolve into a completely different person. She was very strong, and had more of an artistic view of life. He was very proud of her. Very proud, indeed.

"Get some sleep, Jack. It’s been a very long day." She kissed his forehead and held him like she once held her children. She softly sang a song in his ear.

"Come Josephine in my flying machine and it’s up she goes...up she goes..."

The soft sound of her voice lulled him to sleep. She saw a mischievous grin on his face. and she wondered what he was dreaming about. "Sleep well, darling," she whispered, not wanting to wake him. She pulled the warm blankets closely around herself. She closed her eyes and tried to fall asleep.

After an hour or so, she decided that it was no use. She got out of bed and slipped on a warm robe. She walked to the promenade deck. The stars shone so beautifully, still. The ship just sailed, and sailed into the night. No icebergs, no danger, just a gentle hum of the waves crashing against the side of the ship. She sat in one of the chairs and let the wind blow through her hair. It was here, when she listened to the waves, that she finally fell asleep.

Jack awoke and found that Rose was not beside him. Oh, no, was it all just a dream? But it all felt so real this time. He had been having this dream often lately, but never had it felt like this...just when he had thought that he had finally gotten Rose back, in reality, he hadn’t. He lay there in utter disappointment for quite some time, just thinking. He decided to get some fresh air. The sea air always seemed to clear his head. Without bothering to get dressed, he walked out onto the promenade deck. He walked to the windows and stared out into the sky. The stars still amazed him. The world would be forever changing, and yet, the stars never had and never would. He heard a stirring noise and glanced to his right, and then to his left; there lay Rose in her robe with her head on her shoulder. As if sensing his presence, she awoke.

She saw his nude body before her and couldn’t help but comment on it. "What an image to wake up to," she said, mischievously. He smiled weakly. "Jack, what’s wrong?" She saw the worry in his eyes.

"I…I woke up and you weren’t there, and I thought that maybe I had been dreaming about tonight and I...I…" For once, he was speechless.

"It’s okay, Jack. I’m right here." She spoke as she rose up out of her chair and embraced him with such loving care that he thought he would melt in Rose’s arms. He kissed her softly on the lips. That same magic was still there. He couldn’t believe it. After all these years, his legs still felt like they would give out whenever they touched. It was obvious Rose could feel this, too, for she kissed him back with more passion than he had ever known in her. His mind was sent among the stars. He was here with Rose, but he felt like he was...flying.

Before either of them knew it, they were back in the bedroom. They made love for the second time that night.
