MY JACK IS GONE, AND I'M FOREVER LONELY
Chapter Five

Weird Things Happen Like This

Rose awoke with a start. She was in a cold sweat and she was crying. She was in her room; the one Molly had given her. She looked at the calendar and it was still 1912, July sixth. It had all been a dream, a silly dream. That's when she noticed that she had to go to work to meet Jack. She quickly got dressed and put the rose in her hair and the letter in her pocket and went down to the restaurant.

"Hello, Rose. You're certainly in a hurry to get to work," said Violet, as Rose entered the restaurant.

"Well, you know how I told you I'm meeting someone here today, and I just didn't want to be late. That's why I was rushing to get here," Rose mumbled, as she tried to catch her breath.

"Well, just don't over do it," said Violet.

"I won't," replied Rose. After all, she didn't want to hurt the baby.

The baby! How would Jack react? All of the sudden she became frightened of his not wanting a baby and got a little dizzy at the thought of him not wanting it. But she quickly erased all of those thoughts and concentrated on her work. Although you could tell she was nervous; she jumped every time a customer came into the restaurant.

Finally, around noon, Jack came into the restaurant and looked around for Rose. When he saw her behind the counter he went up to her and realized she was looking down at the floor.

"Rose, what's wrong?" came a soft, kind voice. Rose knew all to well who it was.

"Nothing I..." she said, as she looked into his eyes. "I have something to...to tell you, Jack," she continued as she walked around the counter and sat at a booth next to Jack.

"Rose, it's OK. Now, tell me what you were going to tell me," he said.

"OK. You see, that night in the car...well...I'm sort of...pregnant," she said, shaking and unsure of his reaction.

"You're pregnant? Oh, my God. That's wonderful, Rose!" Jack said and held her in his arms.

She had waited so long to see him, to hear his voice, to hold him, and now she could. She looked into his eyes and could almost swear she saw the ocean. She felt like she was flying again and kissed him, with more passion than she ever had before. She told him the whole story with the dream, Cal, and everything as they walked to Molly's house. She didn't quite know what Molly would do, seeing Jack alive like this.

"Hello, Molly. I'm sure you remember Jack," said Rose.

Molly almost burst out laughing, crying and in shock at the same time. "Oh, my God. Jack, darling, how did you make it? I thought you were dead and gone," said Molly, hugging Jack.

"It's a long story," laughed Jack.

"Well then, Jack, you can tell us over dinner. Come on," said Molly, and all three of them went into the dining room. After dinner Jack told Molly his story, and Rose told hers. Then they went up to bed.

"Well," said Molly. "I only have one thing to say about all this."

"What's that, Molly?" asked Rose, as she lay in Jack's arms.

Molly headed towards the door. Then, they heard her say, as she walked out, "Weird things happen like this...but I never thought I'd be part of it..."

Rose and Jack laughed, and Jack almost fell asleep instantly. Rose lay there thinking of all that had happened to her in the past few months, and was glad to know it had all ended up like this. Because without Jack, she would truly be forever lonely.

The End.
