MY HEART BELONGS TO YOU
Chapter Seven

Jack, Rose, Teddy, Hannah, Kevin, Rachel, Jessica, and Donald were all on the lake. Today was the day that they had decided to go ice fishing. Each of the men, including Donald, were helping the ladies fish.

"All right, now. Put the line down in the water," Jack said to Rose. Rose dropped the whole line into the water. "No, not the whole thing," Jack said, chuckling.

"Oh, all right," Rose said. "I'll go get another line."

"All right, I'll come with you," Jack said.

"Jack, can you help us for a moment?" Donald asked.

"It's all right, Jack. You go help Donald and Jessica," Rose said.

"All right," Jack said.

Rose walked slowly across the ice, like Jack told her to. Successfully, she made it across, and went into the small shed to get some more line and a stick.

Rose started to walk back across the ice, but suddenly there was a slight crack, and Rose stood still.

Jack turned around quickly, and yelled, "Rose?"

Rose looked up from the ice. Before Jack could say anything else, Rose disappeared under the ice.

"Rose!" Jack shouted, and started to run across the ice.

Everyone turned around, and saw Jack running. They knew that this meant trouble, and they raced over to see what was wrong. Rose was trying to tread water in the freezing water.

"JACK!" Rose called, waving her arms.

"Rose, give me your hand!" Jack shouted, and held out his hand. Rose grabbed his hand, and Jack started to pull her out.

"Rose! Rose, listen to me. I need you to pull yourself up!" Jack said. Rose struggled to pull herself out.

"Hannah, go get tons of blankets," Rachel said.

Rose fell back into the water. "Jack, I can't. The ice is too slick. I can't get out," Rose said.

"Come on! Let's get something!" Kevin said to Donald.

They found a huge piece of lumber, and gave it to Jack. They pulled her out with that, and Rose was unconscious. They bundled the blankets around her, and Jack carried her into the house.

"We need to get her close to the fire," Rachel said. They laid Rose next to the fireplace. "Go get some more blankets and a pillow. Kevin, go and get my doctor's bag," Rachel instructed. "Jack, I want you to sit right next to Rose and hold her hand," Rachel told Jack.

Jack held Rose's hand. Rose had pieces of ice in her hair, and blue lips.

"Rose. Rose, come on. Rose, wake up," Rachel said to Rose. "Come on, Rose. You need to wake up," Rachel said, patting Rose's pale cheeks.

Rose eyes fluttered open, and she mumbled something. "Baby."

"The baby? The baby is fine, Rose. I need you not to go to sleep, all right?" Rachel said.

Rose nodded her head, and looked at Jack. "The baby will make it," Rose said, with a slight smile.

Jack smiled, and tears came down his face. He hugged Rose tightly to him, and Rachel smiled.

"Here," Kevin said, handing Rachel the bag.

"Thank you," Rachel said, and opened up the bag. Rachel felt Rose's heart, and the baby's. For the baby, everything was okay, but not for Rose. "Let's get her into bed."

They carried Rose up to the bed, and put her nightgown on her. When Rose was safe in the bed, Rachel asked if she could speak with Jack.

"Jack, Rose has a very bad case of hypothermia. I want her to stay in bed. Tonight, I want to make sure that everything will be all right. Is it okay if I stay here for the night?" Rachel asked.

"Yeah. Of course," Jack said, and nodded his head. Rachel started to go back into the bedroom, but Jack held her back. "Rachel?" Jack asked.

"Yes, Jack?" Rachel replied.

"What are we having?" Jack asked.

"Excuse me?" Rachel asked, perplexedly.

"The baby. Is it a boy or a girl?" Jack asked.

Rachel smiled.
