HEARTS ARE BROKEN, LIVES ARE SHATTERED
Chapter Ten
Zoë telephoned her mother and told her what
happened.
"Mom, it's Zoë," Zoë said.
"Dear, what's wrong?" Rose asked.
"Clarissa and Lance ran away to New
York," Zoë said.
"Does anyone else know?" Rose asked.
"No. I found the note she wrote,"
Zoë replied.
Zoë read the note, and when she finished,
Rose was crying.
"Talk to your father. I need to tell
your grandmother," Rose said.
"Hello?" Jack said.
"Dad, Clarissa and Lance ran away to New
York," Zoë said.
Jack looked at Rose. "Did they take
Devin and Cathy with them?"
"Yes, and they also left a note,"
Zoë said, and read the note to him.
After Zoë read the note, she noticed that
Felicity was behind her the whole time.
"Dad, I have to go," Zoë said, and
went to comfort Felicity.
"Is it true?" Michael asked after
Zoë calmed Felicity down.
"Yes," Zoë said.
"So, what are Mom, Dad, and Grandma
going to do?" Lucas asked.
"I don't know. They said just to wait by
the phone to see if Lance and Clarissa are going to call," Zoë replied.
Suddenly, the phone rang.
"Hello?" Lucas said.
"Luke? It's Clarissa. We're almost in
New York."
"Clarissa? Are you crazy?" Lucas
asked.
"No. We had to get away," Clarissa
said.
"Put Lance on the phone," Lucas said.
"Hello?" Lance said.
"If you hurt my sister, I swear I'll
kill you," Lucas said.
Felicity got up and decided she wanted to go
to bed.
"Give me the phone, Luke," Zoë
said.
"Hey, did I do something wrong?"
Lance asked.
"Think for yourself," Zoë said.
"We gotta go, we've have another day
until we're in New York," Lance said.
"Let me talk to Clarissa," Zoë
said.
"Hello?" Clarissa said.
"Take care of yourself," Zoë said.
"I will. We have one more day. I'll call
you until we get there," Clarissa said.
"Michael wants to talk to you real
quick," Zoë said.
"Bye, Zoë," Clarissa said.
"Bye," Zoë replied, and left to
talk to Lucas.
"I never told you this, but I love
you," Michael said.
"It's too late, Mike," Clarissa
said.
"I know, but as a brother, I love
you," Michael said.
"As a sister, I love you, too,"
Clarissa said.
"Bye," Michael said.
"Bye," Clarissa replied, and hung
up.
"I hope you know I love you," Lance
said.
"I love you, too," Clarissa
replied.
After that, they found a place to stay and
put the girls to bed.
"So, what do we do now?" Jack asked
Rose after they talked about what happened with Clarissa.
"We do nothing. If she was old enough to
run off, she can take care of herself and her daughters," Rose replied.
Jack leaned down and kissed her. "I've
never known anyone like you."
"That's the best part about me."
