HEARTS ARE BROKEN, LIVES ARE SHATTERED
Chapter Eleven
The morning dew on the grass felt relaxing to
Rose. The wind in her hair calmed her nerves.
Jack walked up behind her; it had been two
weeks since she had gotten out of the hospital.
"Jack, what do you think Clarissa's
doing right now?" Rose asked Jack.
"I think she's having fun raising her
family in New York," Jack replied.
New York
Clarissa woke up in Lance's arms.
"Hey, you," Lance said.
"Hey, yourself," Clarissa replied,
and kissed him.
"So, what are we doing today?"
Lance asked.
"You are going to go look for a job, and
then we both can go grocery shopping," Clarissa said, and then got out of
bed.
Suddenly, Devin started crying and Clarissa
ran to the girls' room. "It's okay, Devin. We're all right."
Lance picked up Catherine and they both took
the babies to the kitchen for breakfast.

Zoë begged her mother to take her shopping
for clothes that day. When they got home, Jack had a surprise waiting for Rose.
Jack walked out of the house holding Nicholas
to greet Rose and Zoë. "Rose, I have a surprise waiting for you
inside."
Jack knew today was her birthday, and tried
his best not to give out that he knew.
"Jack, what's this?" Rose asked,
referring to a wrapped present on the kitchen table.
"Open it, Rose," Jack replied,
smiling.
Rose went over, took the lid off of the box,
and found in it two golden retriever puppies!
"Jack!" Rose exclaimed, and then
she kissed him.
"I knew you never got to own a dog when
you were a kid, and I decided that I wanted to give you two puppies," Jack
said.
Lucas walked in, muddy and dirty from playing
baseball, and saw that his dad had finally given his mom the puppies.
Rose walked over and picked up the puppies.
"They’re beautiful."
"This is the girl," Jack said,
referring to the smallest one.
"This is the boy," Zoë said.
"You knew?" Rose asked.
"I had to get you away from the house
for something," Zoë said.
Rose took the puppies and decided to name
them. "The girl is Loops, and the boy is Pogo."
Jack gave Nicholas to Felicity, who had just
come down because she had heard something, and hugged Rose. "I love
you."
Rose laughed. "I love you, too."
