HEARTS ARE BROKEN, LIVES ARE SHATTERED
Chapter Four
April 24, 1912
Rose woke up next to a sleeping Jack.
"Jack! Jack, wake up!" Rose called.
Jack did nothing but mumble, "Can Zulu
play today, Mrs. Mack?" Rose laughed and then pushed him off of the bed. "Hey!
Watch it, Rose," he joked.
They stayed in bed and talked, but Jack
noticed that something was wrong with Rose. "Rose, what's wrong?" he
finally asked.
"I…um…Jack, I'm pregnant," she
finally got the nerve to say.
Jack's eyes grew wide. "Is it—" he
started, but Rose cut him off.
"Who else's?" she asked.
Jack jumped out of bed. "I’m going to be
a dad!" he yelled.
"Shut up, Dawson, or I'll call the
police!" their neighbor, Mrs. Jones, shouted.

The rest of the day, Jack and Rose walked in
the park, talking about their future and past. Finally, Jack got the nerve to
tell Rose of his past. "I lied to you. I have a cousin. His name is Joseph
Calvert and he lived in Chippewa Falls when my parents died, but I didn't want
to live with him," he said.
"Jack, I don't care if you lied to me
about that or if you lied to me about your parents being dead. I want us to
have a clean and fresh start," Rose said.
They sat down on a park bench and started
talking about where they were going to live when Jack made a suggestion.
"Let's get married right now."
"You're crazy, Jack, and we need two
witnesses," Rose replied.
"Mr. and Mrs. Jones. Come on!" he
suggested.
"Oh, all right, but I need to get a
dress and you need to get a tux." She finally gave in.
Suddenly, they saw a familiar face in the
park. "Molly!" Rose and Jack shouted.
"Jack? Rose? Oh, my God! It is
you!" Molly shouted. Jack and Rose walked over to her and they each
received a hug. "So, what brings you here?" she asked them.
"We're getting married," Jack said.
"Well, first of all, congratulations,
and second, you are going to need a tux and a dress, and remember that I don't
take no for an answer," she said.
"Molly—" Rose started.
"I don't take no for an answer,"
Molly interrupted.

A few hours later, Jack and Rose were wed.
"So, where to, Mrs. Dawson?" Jack
asked.
"To the stars..."
