She was an accomplishment,
She was revolutionary,
She was the largest of her kind.
She carried rich and poor alike,
She carried them to America,
She carried them to their new lives.
She was admired by reporters,
She was said to be unsinkable.
She was loaded up, and shipped out for the first time.
She impressed passengers with her speed,
She impressed them with her luxury,
She impressed them with her size.
She ran smoothly for the first few days,
She ran smoothly until the fourteenth of April,
She ran smoothly until 11:40.
She collided with an iceberg,
She started filling fast,
She was doomed in less than three hours.
Her officers loaded lifeboats,
Her wireless men sent messages,
Her passengers didn’t believe.
Slowly, slowly she began to sink,
Slowly, slowly people realized the truth.
Slowly, slowly, they went down in boats.
Her quartet played,
Her crew ordered,
Her lights stayed on.
She rose slowly out of the water,
She was being pulled down.
She knew her time was near.
Her lights went out,
Her bow broke off,
Her stern bobbed in the air.
She floated for awhile before sinking down,
She plummeted towards the bottom,
She hit the mud with force.
Her luxury, size, and speed were lying on the ocean floor.
The unsinkable Titanic was no more.
