JACK AND ROSE: TOGETHER FOREVER
Chapter Fourteen
"Jack its pitch dark out. Are you crazy!
We can't go riding in the dark!" Rose told him. The two stood in front of
a horse riding stable.
"Why not, it's still open?" "I
know Jack, but it's really dark out." Rose challenged.
"I mean I want to do this, but its
dark."
"Rose. Come on it will be fun. I
promise." Rose looked at Jack. He had his hand clasped in front of him and
was giving her a sad puppy look.
"You really want to do this don't
you." Rose asked.
"Yes Rose. I do."
"Alright than, you win Jack." Jack
exploded in a big.
"Hurrah!" Rose just laughed.
"You are going to love this I
promise." Jack told her when he settled down. Rose just smiled at him. He
grabbed her hand and brought her up to the front counter.
"Hi yes, we would like to rent a horse
for about an hour." Jack told the man.
"Alright, only one horse. That will be
$1.00 for an hr. And by the way my name is Paul." Jack paid Paul and the
he took them back to the stables.
"Now I am going to let you two ride one
of my best horses. Her name is Checker. She's really nice." Paul told them
leading them up to a stall and pulling open the door. He brought out a
beautiful black horse.
"Oh my she's gorgeous!" Rose
exclaimed.
"Ya, she's really nice too." Paul
said.
"Ah miss, are you going to ride in that
dress?"
"Oh!" Rose exclaimed looking down
at her fancy dress that she still wore. There was no way she could ride like a
man in this dress. She had forgotten this is what she was wearing. Rose looked
at Jack, wondering what she should do.
"Why don't you change into your other
dress." Jack offered handing her the bag.
"Oh ya. I forgot I had that other
one." Rose replied. Turning to Paul, she asked.
"Do you have a place I could
change?"
"Yes miss. Right this way." He told
her leading her toward a small back room that Rose assumed that is was the
bathroom.
"You can change in here."
"Thank you very much." Rose told
him closing the door and sitting the bag down. Quickly she changed into her
other dress and folded the other one up and put into the bag with her other
dress or rather nightgown. Stepping out of the 'bathroom', Rose crinkled her
nose. She had never noticed the smell until now, and it was bad. Plugging her
nose as best she could without using her hands, she walked over to where Jack
and Paul were.
"Well that's more like it." Paul
said as soon as she got over there. Rose smiled at Paul, he was an older man
who was quite skinny and was slightly bald. Rose guessed that he was in his
late fifties.
"Shall we get to it before it gets any
later than?" Jack asked. Rose nodded and told Jack.
"Now Mr. Dawson, you have to teach me
how to do this. I have never ridden like a man before." Jack grinned at
her. Paul stood a few feet away and watched the two young people flirt with
each other. They were so young, but looked very much in love. But he guessed
that there was something he was missing, like the horse thing. Why was the
young women, Rose, wanting to ride a horse with one leg on each side instead of
the usually sidesaddle. 'Oh well, it's none of my business.' Paul thought
walking closer to the couple.
"Do you need any help?"
"No thank you I think we have got
it." Jack replied.
"Now what time do we have to have her
back by?"
"Well it's about 8:15 now, in-between
9:15-9:30, and don't mind if you are a few minutes late. But we do close at
10:00 so I am warning you."
"Oh don't worry I think we'll probably
be back by 9:30." Jack told him.
"And would you mind watching this for
us?" He asked handing their bag to Paul.
"No problem." Paul replied.
"OK Rose are you ready?" Jack asked
coming over to her.
"Oh yes." Rose replied stroking Checker’s
mussel. Than suddenly she got an idea.
"Jack wait a minute." Rose told him
as she slipped of her shoes and socks and wiggled her tows around. Jack grinned
and slipped his shoes and socks as fell. After handing both of their shoes to
Paul to put them into the bag, Jack walked over to Rose and started walking out
of the stable.
"Thank you so much." Jack told Paul
as he led Checker out of the stable with Rose not far behind.
"Yes thank you." Rose echoed as she
passed by Paul.
"You're welcome!" Paul called to
the couple. But they didn't hear. 'To lost in there own world.' He thought.
"OK Rose, first put your left foot into
the stirrup. Good like that, now boost yourself up and swing your leg over to
the other side. Good you made it!" Jack told Rose once they were outside.
"Oh Jack I feel a little funny. Are you
sure I am doing this right?" Rose asked.
"Rose you look like you have been doing
this for years. And don't worry, you'll get used to the felling." Rose
smiled at him.
"Now stay right where you are. I am
going to climb on behind you." Jack told her. Rose looked around as Jack
climbed on back. The pier was down a little ways and was lit up so it very
magical looking. She could also see the general area where their apartment was.
It was dark out and Rose wondered how Jack was going to be able to ride in the
dark.
"OK Rose are you ready?" Jack asked
as soon as he was up behind her.
"As ready as I'll ever be." Rose
replied.
"OK than." Jack grabbed the rains
and kicked the horse a little and Checker started to run down the beach. Rose
screamed and yelled. It was some of the most fun she had ever had. Suddenly
Jack steered Checker over into the surf.
"Ah! Oh my lord Jack! This is so much
fun!" Rose yelled as the water spayed her face. Jack laughed along with
her and joined in on the screaming. Rose suddenly got an idea and stood up in
the stirrup. Seeing what she was doing, Jack put his arms around her waist to
steady her. Rose grinned and put her arms out just like she had done on
Titanic. Smiling a brilliant smile, she let the wind ripple through her hair
and felt free as a bird. She wondered why Jack was not joining her; than
realized that he didn't have stirrup's to stand up in. She heard him singing
Come Josephine in My Flying Machine just as he had done on Titanic. Sitting
down, she stuck her arms out and Jack leaned forward taking her two hands in
his own and softly sang into her ear. Rose knew better than to start kissing on
a horse, but told Jack to stop the horse. Jumping down she pulled Jack along
with her. Smiling a sly smile, she leaned in to kiss Jack. Jack pulled her
tighter and deepened the kiss. When they parted Rose looked at Jack.
"Jack this is the most fun I have had in
a long time. I loved it so much and had so much fun. Thank you."
"Rose you are very welcome. I knew that
you would love it, did you mind that it was dark?"
"Oh no Jack. Actually I think it made it
more fun. And romantic." Rose added giving him a sideways grin.
"Aw Rose. If you think this was fun,
weight until we get home." Jack told her giving her a smoldering look.
"Now it looks like we have about a half
hour left with Checker here. Want to go for another ride?"
"Yep, I really think I have this 'riding'
like a man' thing down." Rose told him. Jack just laughed and helped Rose
back up on Checker.
"Oh Jack this look's great!" Rose
exclaimed as soon as they got home. Jack had told her to go into the bathroom
and change into her nightgown. When she had emerged, she had found lit candles
all around the room and the lights off. The door was also closed.
"I am glad you like it honey. And this
is the other part of your surprise in case you haven't guessed." Rose
grinned and walked over to Jack. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she gave
him a long passionate kiss. Jack groaned as they parted.
"Oh Rose I have waited all day for this.
And you look gorgeous in that nightgown."
"Mmm, me to Jack." Rose whispered
pulling Jack closer to her. Suddenly Jack picked her up and spun her around.
"Jack! Jack stop put me down!"
"OK..." Jack told her and set her
gently on the bed. Before she could move he climbed on top of her and held her
hands down.
"Jack..." Was all Rose got out
before she was stopped by Jack kissing her. When the kiss ended Rose whispered
as she looked into Jack's eyes.
"Jack the stars are bright
tonight." And with that she pulled Jacks head down and kissed him like she
had never kissed him before.
