JACK AND ROSE: TOGETHER FOREVER
Chapter Twenty
December 28, 1912
11:00 AM
"Oh Jack where is that train?" Rose
asked desperately.
"It should have been here by now."
"I don't know Rose. It's probably
delayed because of snow or ice on the tracks. Not everywhere is 55 degrees
right now remember."
"I know." Rose said blowing some of
her parted on the side hair out of her eyes. Jack and Rose were standing in
front of a gate at the Los Angeles Train Station. Bryan, Dianna, and Brittany
were set to arrive at 10:45 here. Bryan had wanted it in LA because he was
surprising Dianna and he didn't want her to know where they were really going.
Rose and Jack were going to pick them up and take them back to Santa Monica to
stay until January 5th, when they would head back to New York.
"Jack its 11:05! They are twenty minutes
late. Where are they!?"
"Rose I have no idea. Why don't you calm
down and we will go and ask that man over there." Jack said in a soothing
voice and pointed to a conductor standing a few feet away. Rose nodded and
started to pull Jack toward him.
"Excuse me sir, but where is the train
set to arrive from New York? It was suppose to be here twenty minutes
ago." She asked in a demanding tone.
"Miss, we have just gotten word that it
will be here in five minutes. There was ice on the track back in Denver."
"Thank you." Rose told him and
turned t o Jack who was behind her. He was smiling, "I told…" was all
he got out before Rose interrupted.
"I know I know. I just was worried
that's all."
"I know you were dear. Now let's go and
sit down for a minute we have been standing for twenty minutes." Jack
suggested. Rose nodded and they sat down on a small bench close to the gate.
For the next five minutes Rose keep nervously checking the big tall clock tower
that was right by the station. One minute, two minutes, three minutes. When
five minutes were up Rose jumped out and run to look down the track farther.
"I see it! I see the train Jack!"
Rose yelled excitedly. Jack came over to her and looked as well.
"See I told you Rose. Now let's steep
back so we don't fall off the platform." Jack said pulling Rose away. They
stepped back and let the train pull into the station. A few minutes later,
passengers started poring out the doors.
"Rose!" someone yelled from the
opposite end that Rose and Jack were looking at. Rose turned and saw Brittany
running toward her, three suitcases in her hands. Rose ran up to her and took
one suitcase, hugging her as she did. The two started talking and Jack just
stood there shaking his head. When Rose and Brittany got to Jack, he asked, "Brittany
were are Dianna and Bryan?"
"No, 'Hi Brittany, good to see
you.'?" Brittany asked. Jack smiled.
"Hi Brittany, it's good to see you. Now
where are Bryan and Dianna."
"They're in first class. I had to ride
second because Dianna still doesn't know I am here, or whom she is going to see
for that matter. Bryan said he was going to blindfold her and lead her over to
where we are. I think this is going to be very surprised." Brittany told
Rose and Jack. Just than they saw Dianna being lead by Bryan toward where they
stood. Jack, Rose, and Brittany waved to him and he waved back.
"Dianna dear, we are almost there."
Rose heard Bryan say to his wife.
"Where you please just tell me where we
are going?" Rose than heard Dianna ask.
"Nope." Bryan and Dianna arrived to
where Rose and Jack and Brittany were.
"You can set your suitcase down now
dear." Bryan instructed sitting his own suitcases down.
Dianna did that and asked, "Now can I
take this off."
"Yes dear." Rose, Jack, and
Brittany stood in front of her, wanting to see her face. Dianna slowly undid
the blindfold, the first thing she saw were Rose, Jack, and Brittany standing
right in front of her.
"Rose? Jack? Brittany?" She asked
in a whisper.
"Hi Dianna, it's good to see you."
Jack said glancing over to Brittany, she glared at him.
"You to Jack." Dianna said giving
him a hug.
"Hello Rose, hello Brittany."
Dianna said dryly after her hug. Rose was stunned. Brittany had said she was
acting weird, but not this weird. She thought Dianna would be happy to see
them. Rose felt Brittany give her a little kick as if to say, "I told you
so." Rose nodded.
There was a few seconds of an awkward silence
before Rose said cheerfully, "Well no use standing around here when it's a
half hour home. Let's go." Everyone picked up as much suitcases as they
could and started for a cab.
"Wow! Rose, Jack this is a nice
apartment. And look at that view!" Brittany said excitedly as soon as she
entered the apartment. She went running around, looking at everything. Dianna
and Bryan came through the door and set their bags down.
"Wow Jack, this really is a really nice
apartment." Bryan said.
"Thank you." Rose and Jack said in
unison.
"Let's see, Brit, you are sleeping out
here on the couch." Rose said to the girl who was now by the group again.
Brittany nodded and walked over to the couch.
"Nice." She said setting her stuff
down.
"And Bryan and Dianna, you get the spare
bedroom." Jack said leading them into the medium size bedroom off to their
right. Bryan and Dianna set their suitcases down and followed Jack back into
the living room where Rose and Brittany were.
"Would you like me to give you the grand
tour?" Rose asked in an English voice. Brittany laughed and nodded, as did
Bryan. But Dianna just remained silent. Jack came over and took Rose's hand and
they started with the tour.
"This is this living room." Rose
said making motions with her free hand to indicate that it was the living room,
again using the English voice. Rose and Jack led them around the house, except
for their bedroom, and to the balcony.
"This is our wonderful balcony
overlooking the Pacific Ocean." Rose said leading the group outside onto
the balcony.
"I like it Rose." Brittany said.
"But what is that door?" she asked pointing inside to their bedroom
door.
"That's our bedroom." Jack said.
"Can I go look?" Brittany asked
going back inside.
"Yes, but I don't know why you would
want to see it." Jack said. The rest of them went inside and over to Rose
and Jack's room.
"This is our lovely bedroom." Rose
said opening the door to their light blue and white bedroom. The curtains were
open on the right side of the bedroom, over the bed, reveling two big bay
windows. The windows over looked the ocean and you could see the balcony if you
looked to the right.
"This is wonderful!" Brittany
exclaimed.
"And I love the unmade bed." Bryan
added.
"And the clothes on the floor."
Brittany said. Dianna again remained silent. Rose blushed and ran to kick their
clothes into a pile of the side.
"Ah, this is our bathroom." Jack
said taking over Rose's job while she picked up their clothes. He led them into
a bathroom to the left of the windows. It to had a window overlooking the
ocean. And like the bedroom, was blue and white.
"Very nice." Brittany said.
"This is a nice apartment. Much better
than the ones in New York, that's for sure."
"Yes, they are." Rose said joining
them again.
"Oh Rose, you're not the color of your
name anymore." Brittany said. And that just made Rose blush more.
"Come on." Jack said leading
everyone out into the living room.
"Well I am hungry." Bryan
announced.
"Why don't we go run to the store and
get whatever for the week. And on the way home, we'll pick up some take
out." Jack suggested. Everyone agreed to that and started to gather their
stuff. Bryan noticed that Dianna was not getting ready.
"Do you want to come?" He asked
her.
"No." Dianna replied.
"You know what. I think I'll stay here
with Dianna." Rose said taking her coat back off. "You guys go
on."
"All right Rose." Jack said giving
her a little kiss, behind them Brittany rolled her eyes. "We'll be back in
about an hour." Jack said on the way out. Rose watched them leave and then
turned to find Dianna.
"Dianna where are you!?" Rose
called. She walked into the spare bedroom. She found Dianna sitting on the bed
with a magazine in her hand.
"Dianna?" she didn't look up.
"Dianna. Earth to Dianna." When she didn't look up again, Rose walked
over and sat down next to her on the bed. "Dianna what the hell is going
on here? You won't even talk to Brittany or me. We thought bringing you here
would make you happy. What is it?" Rose asked in a demanding voice. Dianna
finally put her magazine down and looked at Rose. She saw hurt and confusion in
her friends caring eyes. Rose watched Dianna; she was just staring at her.
"Dianna?" Rose asked softly as though she was talking to a child. And
with that Dianna began to cry and fell into Rose's arms.
