MAGIC MORNING
Chapter Three

Jack looked around his bedroom. It was nice, especially for a ship. He sighed and laid down on his bed. It had been a long day. He couldn't wait to be off of the ship and on American land.

Then, he heard a knock on the door. "Jack, you better get ready for lunch."

Jack sighed, again. "Alright.."

Jack climbed off of his bed and went and got his ready at the other side of the room. He hated this kind of thing. Always going to lunches and such. He was really tired of it. He was tired of his life.

After Jack was ready to go, they walked down to lunch. Jacob started talking about all of the great people aboard this ship. Jack was bored of hearing all of the first class people's names. He, instead, thought about what must have been going on in third class. Would they be having a boring lunch as well? Probably not.

As they reached the lunch room, Jack had a feeling this afternoon would be a boring one. Almost immediately, his uncle was introducing him to everyone. "Jack, I'd like you to meet John Jacob Astor," he said.

"Nice to meet you," Jack said, shaking his hand.

"Hello Jack," he replied.

Jack turned around to meet the next people and he saw the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.

"Jack, I'd like you to meet Caledon Hockley," Jack shook his hand. Jack had heard all of the boring stories about Hockley steel.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Jack," Cal replied. "This is my fiancée, Rose."

Jack took the angel's hand and kissed it. He smiled and looked into her eyes. She smiled back politely.

Rose knew he had the two most beautiful eyes she had ever seen. But, he was probably as boring as Cal. Too bad. She'd love to have a friend on this voyage.

Jack didn't care that she was Cal's fiancée. He knew he had to get to know this girl. She looked intelligent, kind, smart, and a good person. Jack couldn't help but smile when he looked at her.

Jack was glad when he was seated at the same table as Rose. Along with his uncle, Cal, Ruth, and some others.

Jack was amused when Rose started to light up a cigarette. "You know I don't like that Rose..." Ruth said.

"She knows...." Cal said and put it out. Jack looked at Rose who showed no reaction.

"We'll both have the lamb. Rare with very little mint sauce," Cal said. "You like lamb, right sweetpea?" Cal asked.

Rose nodded and smiled, which Jack could tell was fake. "Do you wanna breathe for her too?" Jack asked.

"Jack.." Jacob said warningly.

Rose smiled at Jack. Maybe this guy wasn't so bad. He was standing up for her. He understood what it was like to live like this... maybe.

"Who came up with the name Titanic?" Jacob asked, wanting them to forget Jack's comment.

"It was me, actually," Bruce Ismay said. As finished explaining why, Jack noticed Rose's face light up.

"Do you know of Dr. Freud Mr. Ismay? His ideas about the male pre-occupation and size might be a particular interest for you."

Jack started to laugh until his uncle looked at him. But, Jack wasn't the only to laugh at the joke. Thomas Andrews found it quite amusing as well.

Rose got up. "Excuse me..."

Jack watched as she walked out of the room. He had a pretty good idea where she was going. Outside, where it was nice out. Jack, himself, hated being inside. He loved when he was outside and drawing. That's what he loved.

"I do apologize," Ruth said with embarrassment.

"I've never met a girl like her," Jack said. He met for it to be a compliment, but her fiancé didn't.

"Well, I might have to start minding what she reads for now on, won't I Mr. Dawson?" Cal shot back.

Cal then got up out of his chair and went to search for Rose. Jack knew, by now, that Hockley was a jerk. Why did Rose have to be engaged to him of all people? He didn't know... but he was going to find out.
