A MISUNDERSTANDING
Chapter Three
Their Relationship
"Isabella thinks that I’m having an
affair with you." Cal was sprawled on the bed in Rose’s hotel room. He was
wearing a beige vest over a white shirt and light pants. A sweet smile passed
over his lips.
"Does she have any reason not to?"
Rose sat at the foot of the bed, legs extended on the ground in front of her.
She had a skirt on that would be considered extremely short if worn in public,
made of cotton and stitched with multi-colored beads. Her top was a silk shirt
that wrapped around and was held in place by light blue clips at her shoulders.
"She’s not too happy about us."
Startled, Rose looked over at him. "You
told her about us?"
Mocking her, Cal hung his head in shame.
She playfully kicked him. "How could
you? What did you say to her?"
"That every day you came into my office,
got on your knees, and begged to be my slave."
"Cal! I’m serious."
"Look, I’m sorry. She’s my wife, whether
or not you like to regard the fact, and I told her the truth."
"Which would be...?"
"That we love each other."
"And nothing more?"
"What more is there to tell?"
She gulped. This was the first time that she
had allowed herself to think about him in a long time. "Did you tell her
about Jack?"
Cal now sat up and swung his legs over the
side of the bed so he was sitting right beside her. "No. Of course, you
haven’t said much about him either."
"Do I really have a reason to?"
"Well, those kiddies in the next room
sure look a heck of a lot like him."
"Look, Cal, I don’t want to talk about
it. Maybe, someday, I’ll tell you what happened, but, for now, we’ve got bigger
problems to worry about. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, and I
know that you feel the same about me. But it’s gonna be kind of hard,
considering that you’ve got a loving family. What are we going to do?"
