MY HEART WILL GO ON
Chapter Eight

Rose woke up, ate breakfast, and headed out the door with money in her pocket. Rose headed to the general store, which was only a couple minutes away. Rose entered the general store, and smelled the scent of freshly baked bread. Rose looked around to see what she needed. She went to the front of the store where an old married couple stood. It seemed, from what Rose could hear, that they were fighting about how the bread was made.

"Excuse me." Rose interrupted them softly.

"May I please have the following things, please? Apples, a pound of meat, a loaf of bread, a pound of cheese, and some spaghetti strings," Rose said.

The man nodded, and said, "Yes. I'll be right back."

The woman started to get the loaf of bread and the cheese. "I haven't seen you before. Did you just come here?" the woman asked Rose.

"Yes, I just came here two weeks ago," Rose said, taking the money out of her purse.

"That's right, you must be Rose Dawson," the woman said, cutting the cheese.

"Yes, that would be me," Rose said.

"We all give our sympathy to you. We are very sorry about what happened to Jack," the woman said.

"Yes, well, I'm now on with my life, but Jack will always be with me in my heart and soul," Rose said, smiling, as the woman gave her the cheese.

"Do you have any plans, or are you going to stay at home?" the woman asked.

"Well, when I get a little more settled I was planning on using my talent at the theater here in town," Rose said.

"That sounds nice. Henry and I have always loved their plays. Oh, you must think the rudeness of me. My name is Jeanette," Jeanette said.

"Nice to meet you," Rose said.

As Henry came in with some apples, he asked, "Will five be okay with you?"

Rose nodded her head, and said, "Can I also have five potatoes and some milk, please?"

The man looked around, and said, "Um, you can get the potatoes here, but you will have to go down to this building across from us for the milk. I'm surprised that Walter has not been sending you any."

Rose nodded her head, and said, "All right. Well, then, that will be all."

Henry smiled, and nodded his head, as he said, "That will come to a total of five dollars, please."

Rose placed the money on the counter, and then put the groceries in her basket. As Rose exited the general store, she went to the Walter Milking Dairy Farm. Rose entered the dairy farm, and she told the milkman to start to deliver milk back to Jack and Rose's house. Then Rose went to the florist to buy a rose to place on Jack's grave. As she entered the cemetery, she went straight over to his grave. She became limp, and she held on to the black railing marking the boundaries of the cemetery. She knelt down to her beloved man, as she spread her gentle fingers across the words 'J.D.'. She then placed the single red rose on top of the grave marker.

"Jack, I promise, I'll never let go...I love you," Rose said, and kissed the words.

As she got up, she suddenly saw her that absolutely frightened her. So frightening, that her apples, her potatoes, her cheese, and meat fell all to the ground, including her milk.

"No, it can't be," Rose said, shaking her head.
