A LOVE REBORN IN THE STREETS
Chapter Five

Jack hadn't seen Rose in a while. He had meant to be with her later that night, but since his father's death, all the hatred in him was pent-up, and he had nowhere to use it.

He found himself walking to Rose's flat. He knocked on her door when he got there.

"Jack? Oh, I missed you so much. Where have you been?" She hugged him.

"I've been away, Rose. My father is dead. There's also something I have been meaning to tell you. A few days ago, I saw Caledon Hockley." Jack could still feel Cal's ties to Rose.

"Cal? What is he doing here?" Rose was surprised that he was still alive.

"I think he's related to Bill Cutting." Jack took off his shirt and vest and sat down in a chair.

"The Butcher? No way." Rose could not believe this. Cal had never mentioned anything about Bill.

"Yes. I am gonna kill him, Rose, once and for all." Jack was still angry.

"Jack, you can't be serious." Rose patted his hand.

"Listen, Rose. His father killed my father, and I am gonna kill them both." He got up and held her strongly against a wall.

"Ouch, Jack! That hurt!" His tight grip had left impressions on her upper arms.

"I am sorry. I am not mad at you." He let her go and started to feel guilty.

"It's all right. Just don't do it again." Rose rubbed her arms.

"I am so sorry. I didn't mean to." He put his arms around her, and then let her go.

"Don't apologize. Come here." She held him in her arms, and he cried himself to sleep that night. Rose felt powerless. There was nothing she could do. As much as she hated Cal herself, she didn't want him dead. She was too kind for that.

The next morning, Jack woke up, realizing that he had slept at Rose's place. He turned over to find her asleep nude by his side. He touched her firm back and pulled the sheet a little lower. He closed his eyes, remembering when he had taken her to the stars. He hadn't expected her to be so wild that night, and still a virgin, no less. He had taken that away from her that night, giving her the best of him, even if it killed him.

While his eyes were still closed, Rose looked at him and smiled. "You gonna draw me again?"

He opened his eyes. "Just remembering."

"Remembering what?" She cupped his face.

"You. Our first night together." He opened his eyes and reached out to her.

"Oh, Jack." She held him close to her. She wasn't afraid to be naked in front of him.

"I am sorry for the way I grabbed you last night," he apologized.

"It's okay. But next time you grab me like that, make sure you are making love to me," Rose teased, trying to get his mind off of what he was thinking.

"Like this?" He took her arms and held them above her head as he kissed her neck.

"Jack, don't start anything if you can't finish it," she warned him, and laughed.

"Finish it, darling? I intend to continue until you’re screaming my name and crying for mercy." He stood on the bed and looked down at her.

"Now I know why I love you so much. You just don't know when to quit." He got down, pulled the covers over them, and took her to the stars again. But this time it lasted longer, and there were no more icebergs, fiancés, or mothers to worry about.
