A FORGOTTEN STAR
Chapter One

A light shines for the first time in generations, piercing through inky blackness.

Slowly, dejectedly, the battered, worn skeleton emerges, sunken deep into the sea bed, a hulking reminder of a glittering past. Iron bones creak as creatures of the deep swim amongst them, and a long moan is wrenched from the ship that once was.

The plea is ignored. Who will listen now?

The searching light floats on, an unearthly, unwelcome presence in this somber, grief-stricken place. A ghostly reflection gleams like the brief opening of an eye. The source is revealed--a chandelier glistens, unblemished, seizing its chance. Despite this temporary flash of brightness, the light is still the intruder, unwanted as it reveals more of a past long since left to gather dust. A water-warped piano appears suddenly, baring the shattered and twisted teeth that had crashed and wailed a death-song as she sank beneath the waves…silence is the only tune they will ever play now.

She once was mistress of those same waves, renowned for her size and beauty, full of light and laughter.

A freak chance, the screeching of tortured metal joining the terrified screams as she plunged. Hidden in the murk, those screams hover on the edge of hearing.

Here she lies, the forgotten star of an older world.

The Titanic.
