SURVIVING THE HEARTBREAK
Prologue
Early Morning
April 15th, 1913
Adele Brower set her book down on the
nightstand. She sighed, got up, and started pacing the room for the umpteenth
time that night. Sleep was not coming, but Adele did not mind. She was afraid
that if she went to sleep, her nightmares would return and she would wake up
once again scared and drenched with sweat. 'Please God, give me the strength to
face tomorrow. Please God,' she said inside her head. 'Oh Mother, if only you
were hear to comfort me now, to hold me, and sing me to sleep like you used
to.' Tears started to run down her face as she sat back down on the bed, her
face in her hands. Sniffing and looking through blurred vision, she glanced at
the clock. '2:20 AM' it read. 'Oh my God. The exact time Titanic went down.'
This just made her cry harder. For exactly a year ago today, Adele’s parents,
Laura and James Brower, died along with the Titanic.
