SURVIVING THE HEARTBREAK
Chapter Two

Adele took one of the six roses that Luke had bought and through it over the side of Pier 54.

"I love you Mother." She whispered as she took another flower and through it over. "I love you Daddy." She whispered again.

"I love you too my little Adele bird." She thought she heard in the wind. Luke stood a few feet away watching Adele. She certainly was an interesting person. He noticed that she seamed to be talking to herself. Or maybe it was her parents. Suddenly Adele turned around and looked at him, "Do you want to throw some?" She asked.

Luke looked at her, 'No,' he thought. He didn't need anymore reminders of his older brother, Kyle. God, he missed him so much. But Luke didn't want to be rude so he said, "Sure. What the heck." He headed over to were Adele was and look the rose she was holding out to him. "Goodbye Kyle. I am so, so sorry." He whispered and threw it over the side. Luke heard a sniffle and looked over at Adele, she was crying again.

"Shh, Adele. Don't cry." He said, trying to comforter yet again.

"I am sorry. I knew today was going to be hard." She mumbled.

"You don't have to be sorry. I just want to be okay." Luke said, trying to get her to smile. He hadn't seen her smile yet. Adele shook her head and threw the remaining three flowers over the side of the pier.

"Goodbye Mother, Goodbye Daddy." She looked at the six flowers swimming around in the water. She closed her eyes and once again saw the bodies swimming around, trying to find salvation. 'God, I hope Mother and Daddy weren't out there.' He hand automatically went up to hold her locket. But it was not there! "Oh my God!" She gasped. Luke snapped out of his trance and looked her way. Adele was crawling around on the pier, apparently looking for something.

"What? Did you lose something?"

"My, my locket. The one my parents gave me! It's gone!" Adele sobbed. Luke immediately got down on his knees and began to search for the locket. But they couldn't find it. Adele stood up and started crying hysterically. Luke, once again, came over to comfort her.

"Shh, Adele. It's okay, it's okay."

"That was the last thing my parents gave me before they, they, they died." She sobbed into his shirt. Luke smoothed her hair down.

"Oh Adele I am so sorry." Adele pulled away, her face red and blotchy.

"I need to go home. I can't stay here anymore."

Luke nodded, "Okay, I'll take you home. Come on." He started leading Adele, still sobbing hysterically, away.
