THAT NIGHT
Written by Alison
Based on some situations originated by James Cameron.
She felt the cold breeze caress
her face, and closing her eyes, she was reminded of that dreadful night two
days ago. A tear trickled down her cheek, and brushing it away, she looked
around her. There were a lot of people leaning over the railing of the ship.
She could remember the last time she leaned against the railing of a ship, but
that moment had been thoroughly different. She had felt safety, protection, and
love all around her at that particular moment. Now, she felt only loneliness…
As if accompanying her sorrow,
rain began to pour down. Taking no notice of the freezing rain, she advanced forward
and merged with the crowd. Some of the faces surrounding her were full of
memories, memories of the people they had left behind somewhere between England
and America. She closed her eyes again, and images flooded her mind. The images
felt so real and so near that she forced a smile in spite of the heartache that
she was enduring that moment.
"Don’t you ever let
go!"
Those five words circled in her
mind, and she looked up at the starry sky. The enormous Statue of Liberty
outlined against the dark sky brought more memories to her, and after some time
staring at it, she turned her gaze away from the commemorative statue and
wrapped the blanket around her more tightly to avoid the increasing chill in
the air. As if to seek more memories, she glanced once more at the Statue of
Liberty, and remained in that pose for several long seconds. However, a voice
brought her to her senses, and she looked at the fresh face beside her. The
young face smiled kindly at her. However, hers didn’t show any emotion besides bitter
sorrow.
"Excuse me. What’s your
name, miss?"
"Dawson. Rose Dawson!"
The End.
