WHEN
THE HEART STOPS BEATING
Written by Emilie
Based on some situations originated by James Cameron.
In silent tears Rose Dawson
looked out over the stormy ocean that was threatening the great city New York.
She could hear the door being closed behind
her and a shaky voice saying: "Farewell, Rose. I’ll miss you."
For one moment she wanted to run after him,
make him stop and bring everything back to the way it used to be.
But she knew it had no use, they had grown
apart and it was too late for them to ever fill the gap again.
So much had happened, too much of each
other’s lives was a mystery to the other, nothing was like before and she knew
that would always remain like that.
Rose decided she wanted to follow the road
she had chosen and deep in her heart she knew she had made the right decision,
no matter how much pain it was causing right now.
The love wasn’t gone but it wasn’t strong
enough anymore to change their worlds.
It hurt but in time the wound would heal and
she could get back to the place she belonged and where she felt at ease.
Remembering everything they had been through
and how they had fought for their opportunity to be together was something she
would do for the rest of her life and those recollections would always be a
part of her.
Staying together for what happened in the
past and to keep those memories alive would be the biggest mistake of her life
and she knew it.
A soft sigh escaped her lips as Rose tried to
put everything that happened in these few days in the right order.
The return of Jack Dawson after more than ten
years of mourning over his death. The chattered believes of his gentle hand
guiding her and bringing her to Bryan Calvert who had been patiently waiting
for her since they had met, nearly six years ago now.
Bryan who had finally found the nerve to ask
her to marry him.
She had turned him down because she still
couldn’t decide between him and Jack.
The kiss she had shared with Jack had been
nothing more than a lie; things weren’t the way they were ten years ago.
She wasn’t the same Rose anymore and he had
changed too.
Their love hadn’t changed, they were
different from each other now and different from the little kids they had been
on Titanic.
Rose knew she owed him her life and she would
never forget that but if that was the only thing that kept them together it
would be wrong and Rose would once again be put in chains.
Put in chains by the man who freed her from
the first.
That’s what she had told him here tonight,
that even if she could turn back time she wouldn’t want anything to change what
had taken place in the past but that the future was something they still had to
make.
And that that future was too important to
throw away on old memories and feelings that weren’t there anymore.
Jack had understood and he knew deep down
inside that she was right although he would have done anything to make her
change her mind.
For the first time in his life he was afraid
letting the past go and reach out to the future.
He had taught Rose to do that and now she had
to teach him all over again.
He would never forget her and she would always
be the love of his life and he would be hers but too much had happened and he
couldn’t undo it.
They had spent so much their lives apart and
life had changed both of them.
She was being reasonable and honest about the
situation and he had needed that, some one telling him the truth. The truth
that their heart had stopped beating…
Although it killed him inside, he recognized
it was time for him to leave and let her live her life the way she had too,
just like he was going to do.
But deep inside their hearts, their love
would keep on burning until they would meet again, up in heaven...
