The goal of this articulation agreement is to develop an ongoing relationship between Mohawk Valley Community College and those schools represented through the Home Economics Teachers Association which will enable these institutions to more effectively meet the needs of their respective communities. Based upon mutual concern for providing programs in Hospitality which will build upon past experiences of students and eliminate unnecessary duplication of instruction, the relevant faculties of the Home Economics Teachers Association - Mohawk Valley West and Mohawk Valley Community College subscribe to the following memorandum of understanding.
Following discussion and exchange of course outlines between the aforementioned parties, the conclusions reached were that there is substantial agreement between the competencies developed in the Food and Nutrition Core (FN-1), in addition to (1) of the following options** and those competencies developed in the college's Hospitality Programs' Food Preparation I (FS 111) course.
Food and Nutrition Core (FN-1)+ ** (1) of the following options:
Food Preparation & Nutrition (FN-2) Regional & International Foods (FN-4) Gourmet Foods (FN-5)Consequently, it is agreed, subject to the following conditions, that Mohawk Valley Community College will grant 4 credits for the course recognized as Food Preparation I to each individual that has successfully completed the Food and Nutrition core and one of the above options in the Home Economics Education program.
1. Each candidate must have completed the above requirements prior to graduation from High School with an accumulative minimum grade average of 85% in each course.
2. Each candidate must have written recommendation from his/her Home Economics teacher, including the prescribed competencies list.
3. On a regular basis, faculty and administrative staff from both institutions will review program objectives and expected competencies. Any program changes must be communicated to the appropriate institution.
4. This articulation agreement is valid only toward the Home Economics Education Programs in the State of New York, more specifically, the Food and Nutrition Cluster which currently meets state guidelines as outlined by the State Education Department under the Office of General and Occupational Education.
5. Students must enroll at Mohawk Valley Community College within one year of their High School graduation date to receive the transferred credits.
The College, through the procedure for advanced placement credit reserves the right to make the final determination concerning the advanced placement of all students.
