Finally the scaffold has come down!! See the sort of tower directly above the blue vehicle? Next week we are bringing in a crane to lift one of Terry's sculptures up to spring from it..... That niche in the tower is actually located in line with the head of those external stairs (the opening in the tiltslabs is the bottom of the stairs) So when you walk up the stairs, the niche is right in front of you, and the sculpture above starts in the middle of this line. |
There is also a grid work of lights on the main tiltslab wall to light it at night |
From a bit further away. Now a couple of earth moving machines have been at work for a day or two, so the whole area this side of the building is getting reworked. The sculpture on top of the tower is now in place...the flight of stairs aims at the apple at the very tip of the hand (close up below). Note the angle matches the angle of the tilt slab edge over to the left. |
Whilst the hand and apple appear complete from this side, from the courtyard this piece looks *completely* different.....
The mirror is to lure magpies, which for a while were getting stuck into the mirror glass curtain glazing on the main part of the building. I guess the bird sees it's reflection as real. I can relate to that...the difference between reflection and reality seems a bit moot to me at times :) |

looking at the same sculpture from the courtyard. The workers reckon he is keeping that right eye closed against the prevailing sou-westers, which blast in with an antartic chill some days. |
