Running Privateer in Windows ME w/o a patch
This is for all you Privateer junkies who can�t get enough of it but have a new computer with Windows ME. There are two ways to play Privateer or RF, one is to get Windows 98, or try to install DOS (which can really screw up your computer). But now there is a third cheap and safe option (w/o a patch. if you want the PATCH method, go here for the download).
First go to add/remove programs then go to startup disc, and create one. Then install Privateer. Then
1. Copy the file priv.tre (or rf.tre) from your Privateer CD to your Privateer directory on your hard drive.
2. Edit your priv.cfg (or rf.cfg) to point to the directory on your hard drive where Privateer is installed.
3. Reboot computer with the startup disc in.
4. Select minimal boot and run the program.
That's it!!
