Toby takes to the floor!

To the excitement of his fans, Toby recently undertook a new challenge - Ballroom DANCING!
...appearing in Season 4 of the smash tv show 'Dancing With The Stars!' each Tuesday night from Feb 21st 2006. :)

With no such dancing experience, he took to the show with zest but was quoted as saying "It is so much harder than I expected!".

However, with Leeanne Bampton as his partner he was in good hands, and of course was an immediate fave. :)

So, how did he go?

Episode 1 (Dance 1) - 21/2/06.

Toby has made a fantastic start, scoring 32 points and ranking Number 1 on the very first episode of DWTS. Second place went to Kostya with 26, a whole 7 points lower!

Dancing the Modern Waltz, and to the tune of 'What The World Needs Now' Toby cut a fine form in a grey vest & pants, and pink shirt & tie (matching Leeanne's floaty pink dress) and certainly made us toby fans proud :) Their lifts and dips, plus their floating moves around the floor made them look like pros already.

He was the 6th dancer to take to the floor.

His scores: Todd 8, Helen 8, Mark 8, Paul 8.
Total: 32!

Congrats Toby!

----------

Episode 2 (Dance 2)- 28/2/06.

Toby has continued his fantastic start, scoring 32 points again this week, and giving us some more very sexy dance moves! We're not sure what Mark was thinking only giving him a 7, but Paul made up for it with a 9!

This week he & Leeanne danced the Rhumba, to the tune of 'Father Figure' (good choice Toby) and an arabian theme. Toby looked very much the part in a white arabian suit and head scarf...and unshaven :)

They came first place again, with Jennifer second at 31...and they were the 9th dancers to take to the floor.

Toby also sported some bleeding from Leeanne's sparkly top! But according to the judges, it was the best rhumba they'd seen!

His scores: Todd 8, Helen 8, Mark 7, Paul 9.
Total: 32!

----------

Episode 3 (Dance 3) - 7/3/06.

He did it again! Coming in number 1 for the 3rd time in a row, and getting his best score so far :) In 2nd place Grant was 4 points lower.
This week Toby & Leeanne became spies as they danced the modern tango in matching outfits - black shirt, pinstriped waistcoat and pants (the only difference being Toby's blue tie and hat, to Leeanne's black) - to the 'Peter Gunn' theme. Each also carried a black briefcase which became a feature at the end when they switched them several times before Toby opened his to rain 'money' notes around them.
Toby was also cleanly shaved again, making him look much younger :)

Judge Paul was quoted as saying "Toby, you make Leeanne great too" :D
We also some footage of Toby & Leeanne performing at last weekend's Mardi Gras, in his package video beforehand :)

He was the 6th dancer to take to the floor.

His scores: Todd 9, Helen 8, Mark 9, Paul 8.
Total: 35!

----------

Episode 4 (Dance 4) - 14/3/06.

This week showed us an even more serious Toby as he & Leeanne danced an intense, yet very passionate, Paso Doble to the tune of 'Jesus Christ Superstar'. Toby wore a black short sleeved shirt with an outlined silver cross on the back, black pants & a red cape. He was also unshaven again. Leeanne wore a black bikini top with mesh overtop, and a black skirt with red underskirt. The atmosphere was dramatic, and I know I couldn't take my eyes off them!

Judge Todd was quoted as saying "You look like two professional dancers" and Judge Mark said it was "spellbinding".
They were the 8th dancers to take to the floor and came first place again, with both Jennifer & Grant coming in second on 31.

His scores: Todd 8, Helen 7, Mark 8, Paul 9.
Total: 32!

Episode 5 - 21/3/06 Memorable Moments Episode
***One week break - no dance***

----------

Episode 6 (Dance 5) - 28/3/06.

Toby & Leeanne looked much more relaxed this week as they danced the Samba to the tune of 'Going Bananas'. The routine started with a brightly attired Toby climbing out of a human-sized banana! In a black shirt with fluoro coloured sleeves of yellow, green, pink, red and purple ruffles and black fringed pants he was nicknamed "Mr Carwash". His waistcoat was also low, showing off some of his chest :) Leeanne wore a yellow bikini with brightly coloured cups and waistband, a yellow fringed skirt to match Toby's pants, and a headpiece of fruit.
We also saw his sister Lauren & her kids in Toby's package clip beforehand.

Coming in first yet again, they beat Kostya (who received 31) by only one point. And they were the 5th dancers to take to the floor.

His scores: Todd 7, Helen 8, Mark 8, Paul 9.
Total: 32!

----------

Episode 7 (Dance 6) - 4/4/06.

First again, yes that's all 6 dances!

Tonight Toby & Leeanne danced the Cha Cha to the tune of 'You Should Be Dancing' and a disco 'Saturday Night Fever' theme

Wearing a silver sequinned - mirrored - jacket & flairs and minus a shirt (showing off some of that chest) :) he began the dance preening in front of a mirror. Leeanne joined him wearing a white dress with sequins over the left breast. The floor was decorated with a disco ball and coloured lights setting the scene perfectly. Toby finished the energetic dance with John Travolta's well known 'Saturday Night Fever' pose.

Judge Todd told him he looked "like a dancing mirror ball" and Sonia had to hand a very sweaty Toby a towel! :)
They were the first dancers to take to the floor.

We also some of Toby's race footage from the 'Formula 1 Grand Prix' celebrity race that weekend, in his package beforehand...AND it was an extra special episode as the other HN guys were in the audience - with Toby joining them later to make their upcoming 'Motown' tour announcement. :D

His scores: Todd 9, Helen 9, Mark 8, Paul 8.
Total: 34!

----------

Episode 8 - 11/4/06
"The Top 5" special
***One week break - no dance ***

Each of the 5 remaining dancing pairs were interviewed by Sonia, and Leeanne was quoted as saying that Toby is the best, and smartest dancing student she has ever had.

Episode 9 (Dance 7) -18/4/06

This week Toby & Leeanne had an Australian outback theme, wearing colonial outfits and dancing the Viennese Waltz to the tune of 'Tenterfield Saddler' a song Toby said he has always loved. An unshaven Toby wore a beige shirt and (tight) pants, brown leather belt, brown bowl cap and a red checked scarf tied around his neck. Leeanne wore a long white 'olden days' dress with a wide brown belt. Their dance began with Toby in the role of a saddler and their routine appeared effortless, with the audience's applause heard during the dance.

They finished the routine with their arms around each other lovingly, and a very cute expression :) Judge Todd said it was "absolutely beautiful" and Daryl told them they "captured us all".
Talking to Daryl after, Toby said they'd done 47 hours training in 2 weeks, and that Leeanne had the flu.

They were the 4th dancers to take to the floor.

His scores: Todd 9, Helen 9, Mark 9, Paul 8.
Total: 35!

Episode 10 (Dance 8 & 9) -25/4/06
Preliminary Final - Two dances tonight!

This week's first theme was the 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' with Toby & Leeanne dancing the Jive to the 'Time Warp'.
The routine began with a white-faced, frizzy haired Leeanne in a very short french maid's outfit standing in front of a coffin.
As the music began, and a loud voice sings out "It's astounding. Time is fleeting. Madness takes its toll..." Toby emerges from the coffin and runs behind the judges. He's wearing black pants and a white vest, with white shoes and black fingerless gloves...and best of all, he has a bald wig with a few strands of stringy white hair (much to everyones surprise - at the beginning of the show he had appeared in black pants & jacket, white waistcoat, with a bare chest and black beanie). It's a very energetic dance and leads to a wardrobe malfunction for Toby, when both straps fall down revealing his bare chest!!

Afterwards, Toby jokes to Darryl that he had a "particularly savage hair malfunction and so best kept under wraps"! :D

It was also good to see Napolean & Josephine in his package clip beforehand :)

They were the first dancers to take to the floor.

His scores: Todd 7, Helen 8, Mark 7, Paul 8.
Total: 30!

----------

Then came dance number two...

Dancing the Foxtrot, Toby & Leeanne carried out a school boy theme, to the tune of Frankie Valli's 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You'. The routine begins in a classroom, with Toby as a lovestruck pupil sitting at his desk, day dreaming about his school teacher Leanne, who is standing in front of him. Both look very much the part with Toby wearing a school uniform of grey trousers, white shirt, blazer & tie...and Leeanne in a white blouse and long black skirt with white underskirt. Her hair is up in a 'stern' bun and both of them are wearing glasses.
Teacher Leeanne then begins to teach her student to dance, and as the music speeds up her clothes are ripped off to reveal a pretty light green dress with a floaty skirt, her glasses are removed and her hair let down. Toby holds a child's suitcase as they dance around the floor. The routine ends with Toby back at his desk, fast asleep, waking up to the sound of a school bell. They were the 4th dancers to take to the floor.

His scores: Todd 8, Helen 9, Mark 7, Paul 8.
Total: 32!

And the final scores were:

Toby & Kostya - a tie with 62.
Grant - last with 61.

Episode 11 (Dance 10 & 11) -25/4/06
Semi Final - another two dances tonight!

This week's first dance for Toby & Leeanne was the American Smooth, and dressed for a 30's (Fred & Ginger) theme, they both looked very smooth themselves! Toby looked dapper in a white shirt, black & white double-breasted waistcoat & pants and a tie. A black top hat, black & white shoes and a walking stick were perfect accessories. Leeanne was wearing a glittery orange dress with skin baring pieces cut out of the front, and net along her arms. She also wore a very sparkling diamond necklace. Together they made a very elegant pair. And matching Leeanne's dress, they danced to the tune of 'Orange Coloured Sky' :) It was a very classy dance, and the judges agreed.

They were the third dancers to take to the floor.

His scores: Todd 9, Helen 9, Mark 8, Paul 9.
Total: 35!

Toby & Leeanne's second dance this week was the Quickstep with a country theme, complete with haystacks and cow!! They danced to the tune of 'Duelling Banjos' from 'Deliverance'.
Both dressed as hillbillies, the routine began with Toby sitting on a haystack playing an instrument and Leeanne next to him with a guitar. She then danced around him, before he jumped up to join in. Toby wore blue overalls and a blue & white checked sleeveless shirt, as well as a straw hat. Leeanne wore a red & white checked shirt and 3/4 jeans. Her hair was in two plaits sticking out to the sides. It was a very lively, happy dance and they both looked to be having fun! :)
Unfortunately the judges did not agree this time and the audience booed at their low scores.

They were the 6th dancers to take to the floor

His scores: Todd 6, Helen 8, Mark 6, Paul 8.
Total: 28!

----------

Unfortunately, this was the last show for Toby & Leeanne who were were out this week in a shock elimination. With tears in his eyes Toby & Leeanne hugged emotionally, and you could see he was heartbroken.

This caused surprise and outrage in viewers everywhere (especially the HN fans) who couldn't understand how it could have happened. It even reached 'Today Tonight' where several people agreed that Toby was the best dancer technically. On the official HN site Toby is quoted as saying

"Naturally, it's really disappointing that we worked so hard every week and to be pipped at the finish line is tough, but we did our best and Leeanne has been an incredibly gracious partner. I'm very proud of what we accomplished together."

The final scores were:
Toby - 63
Kostya - 52
Grant - 68

Although very disappointed, cause we all know our Toby deserved that trophy (and sad that we had to miss out on seeing his Freestyle too!) above all we are very proud of how well he did, and happy that he showed everyone what an amazing dancer and dedicated person he is.

He is definitely the winner in both our eyes and our hearts. Toby you made us proud :)!

Episode 12 - Final -2/5/06
Although Toby & Leeanne were no longer competing, all the dancers were invited back for the final show, and each did a few minutes of one of their previous dances. Toby & Leeanne chose their disco themed Cha Cha, and wowed the audience for the last time.
