But right at the beginning my jaw was about to drop when I saw there was a guitar player on stage who was disabled on both hands. But this didn't limit Rick Renstrom while playing his guitar. On the contrary, with a lot of energy he thrust unbelievable leads into the audience, as it would seem to be so easy...... Rob Rock himself was in top form. He sang like a young God and even the high pitched screams were absolutely no problem for him. Yes it sounded like on his first solo album "Rage of Creation", if not even better. With "Warrior" from his former band Impellitteri and "Nations of fire" from the Project Driver album he dug very deep in his musical past. It would be a great loss if Rob would vanish into thin air again (from the European "live" market). After all this time with Impellitteri (they only played in Japan) he can show everyone what he has to offer. You should check out his solo album "Rage of Creation" or the latest release from Warrior "The Code of Life". The hall was sold out . . . Rob Rock was awesome again and the band played even tighter even much more than in Ennepetal, Germany last December 09, 2000 where I saw him live for the first time. The sound was brilliant and the setlist this time included even a song from the awesome M.A.R.S. album: "Nations On Fire". The rest of the tracks came from his latest solo album plus the song "Warrior" from his former band Driver - no Impellitteri stuff though. His vocal performance was unbelievable - very strong and full of power - even in the highest ranges." A personal note from the Webmaster of Metal From The Rock: "Hi, it's Charlie L. Yap here. I took the Philippine Bar Examination last year conducted by the Supreme Court of the Philippines. The result is expected to be out anytime this month, so please stand and pray with me knowing that God’s awesome power can make a difference and that He will…He has made me a lawyer. Thank God that He is working in this situation and that my testimony and Christian witness will be all stronger and powerful following this exam. Thanks to Rob and Susannah Rock for all your prayers, support and faith during this time.” March 29, 2001 The 89.3 Campus Radio FM 3rd year anniversary special Rob Rock interview is now available on-line [ click to read ] There is a new Rob Rock fan page called "Rob Rock Express" . . . this site rocks! January 01, 2001 "Rage of Creation" is now available at all major record outlets in the Philippines under Galaxy Records. Produced and co-written by his long-time friend, Roy Z, who has recently produced Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden), Rob Halford (Judas Priest), and Helloween, "Rage of Creation" is receiving rave reviews and accolades as the "ultimate hard rock album of the year" "RAGE OF CREATION" TRACK BY TRACK by Rob Rock (Courtesy of Art For The Ears & Metal From The Rock): “IN THE BEGINNING” – “The album starts out with an instrumental piece called In The Beginning. In this song -it's a new song that we've put together- it evokes the mystery of the beginning of creation. And this theme of creation and fresh, real, metal, is like the theme I had for this whole album." “THE SUN WILL RISE AGAIN” - "It's just a powerful song," Rock says. "It's a song of hope and (has) a positive vibe. And it rocks! It's a good way to open the album. Some songs were written around a guitar riff, or the music. It was already there. Some songs were written around the melody in the vocals. Like The Sun Will Rise Again. I had the verse melody and lyrics and the chorus melody and lyrics and I just stood there with Roy and I just sang it to him. And out of thin air Roy Z comes up with this great metal riff. It was awesome! When we play it live it's really great!" “ONE WAY OUT” - "Now this song is a revamped version from the Driver days that Roy and I wrote. It's very high energy. It's got a cool guitar riff. It's got an awesome solo in it. We just took that song and played it with a modern feel and the result is what you have on Rage Of Creation." “JUDGMENT DAY” - "Lyrically this song is basically inspired by the book of Revelation in the Bible. And of course it's about the end times. It's a new song written around a Roy Z riff. Roy Z had the riff, the beginning riff for that song. And I said 'oh, man! That's cool, let's use that! Let's develop this into a song.' Judgement Day basically turned into a three part song. It's almost like a mini opera kinda thing. To me all three parts mesh well together. It's a very heavy song and it's very cool. It got modern tones in it. It's awesome!" So he exclaims enthusiastically." “STREETS OF MADNESS” - "I think this song has one of my best vocal performances on it. It's a great song. We had the riff. I think parts of that song were from the old demos I had. But we rewrote all the lyrics. This song kicks butts. It's great!" “EAGLE” - "It was actually written by Abba. I was introduced to this song by a friend of mine called Chris Leibundgut who helped me put together some of the people in the band. But Chris suggested this song and said 'why don't you do this song? I can hear your voice doing it and I can hear you building it up'. And when I first heard this song, I was like 'okay, Eagle, Abba!' I mean, Abba is a great songwriting band. But, you know, Abba in my mind was nice, sweet pop music. But me and Roy discussed it and we thought that if I would perform it in the way of one of my favorite songs of all time, Heaven And Hell that Ronnie Dio sings with Black Sabbath, that I thought it would evoke a great vibe that would enhance the song and bring it to a new level. A level of metal mystery and power. And so, I went for that and the result for Eagle, to me, is one of the best songs on the album and I really enjoy it. It's a well written song and well performed. Roy Z does a great solo on it. And it just has a cool vibe to it. Most takes are all first takes! Even the solo on “Eagle” on the way out is a “live” one taker from Roy! I was there and it was magic!! We both cried when the tape ran out at the end! Roy could have soloed for days on it, he was just getting warmed up! Awesome!" “BEAUTIFUL LADY” – “Beautiful Lady is nice too. A “live” performance for Roy and me. We recorded the basic track at the same time at his house on an 8 track ADAT.” “ALL I NEED” - "We brought in Jake E Lee to handle the solo on it. It's a bluesy song and it rocks! I mean, it's got a great hook in it and Jake E Lee just takes off on the solo area." “MEDIA MACHINE” - "This song here is like an American metal style song. It's got some of that old, early Dio sentiment to it. It has some of that Impellitteri rhythm guitar styles in it. It's basically a song about the media and how they invade famous people's lives. I mean, you see it everywhere, where they're trying to sell you on everybody's business. It's just a big machine but the whole point is they sell magazines and that's what the song is about." “IN THE NIGHT” - "This song here was originally conceived back in the Driver days. It's got a classic metal style. Kind of like some Judas Priest style going on. The song is really a great mood. I really like the rhythm part of it; the chugging of the rhythms and the vibe it sends off. It's definitely a cool song. It starts off slow but then starts grinding like true metal does." “NEVER TOO LATE” - "This song was originally written with me and Roy back in the day. We thought it stood the test of time. It's a great single type song. It's a short American metal style ditty. And it kicks butt. I mean, it's got a lot of down picking on the rhythms and it gives a lot of energy and a lot of strength. And Butch does a great job on the drums as well." “FOREVER” - "The epic song of the album is a song called Forever. It kind of starts off like a ballad, turns into a mid-tempo song. To me this is like a classic song. I mean, me and Roy put this song together. And I think Roy Z's solo on it especially is like what you've never heard before. This guy's drippin'! But the main part of the song, is the melody. To me it's a great song to sing. It's real fun to sing and it's a great song to listen to as well. I think everyone will enjoy this song. I love “Forever” and wanted it more in the front, but as an album it works best in the end. Isn’t Roy Z smokin’ on the way out?” ROB ROCK
CONQUERS GERMANY PLAYING SOLD-OUT SHOW AT CHRISTMAS ROCK NIGHT. Here
is an exclusive Live Report for Metal From The Rock by Masa of 21st
Century Metal Net:
Rob Rock came roaring into Stadthalle in Ennepetal, Germany on December 9th, 2000 and captivated the crowd for an hour long set. Roy Z couldn't join Rob to play together on stage. So Rob consequently had to take other cool members with him to rock Germany!! The members Rob proudly featured are as follows: Angelo Jannotti
(Lead Guitarist), "He had talked with Rob about
interest in the project for a couple of years. When Rob was holding
auditions and putting band together - came in and
crunched." "The story begins at 19:45, Rob appeared on the stage and began setting up with crews. At 19:50, the real metal show started. In front of the stage, there are already many fans standing and waiting for Rob Rock. Short after the light went down, the band begins the opening tune "The Sun Will Rise Again”. Angelo's guitar sound is very loud and straight so I could clearly catch his heavy riffs. When Rob begins singing, the warm and nice atmosphere in the hall changed to hot and heavy one. Rob's voice is powerful enough to overwhelm the young kids who don't know much about heavy metal. Kids are getting closer and closer to the stage gradually. "Judgement Day" has a very heavy feeling inside and the band expresses this heaviness mercilessly. The audience is singing along with Rob and the temperature in the hall is getting higher and higher... After "Streets Of Madness" Rob presented one of Impellitteri songs "Warrior" from "Answer To The Master" album. Rob didn't fake at all during the show, of cource. What you can hear is the real heavy metal voice of a real heavy metal singer. He sings from his heart and performed with his body and soul. Rob has a great stage presence. Rob tells a short story about mass media and now started the song called "Media Machine". This is one of my faves from the album. Stephen, the bass player, took off his cowboy hat and moves on the stage from left to right. Ricky, the guitarist, is playing with handicapped arms but so what? Just give it a listen to his play; you'll be amazed at his heavy backing play and precise guitar solos! All of the audience seems to be really surprised at his perfect play. The last song before encore is "In The Night" where you can enjoy Rob's deep voice. After 35 minute-stage the band once get off the stage with a big applause. They are, however, called back onto the stage with a highly excited audience. The moment came where I got most excited. "Forever", the greatest song in the album and must be one of the historic metal songs ever. The green dark light is shining onto Rob very gently. Angelo plays its intro-part with a soft touch and then suddenly the song started heatedly. This song has a special tension in itself and the feeling is rising by degrees second by second. Rob sings with his very high-toned voice. It is the highest part of the show this night. Look at the face of the audience! They are obviously overpowered by Rob's unparalleled metal voice and the band's performance! Rob proved melodic heavy metal are not dead even before the modern young kids!!! I hope I can see Rob next time on tour! Heavy Metal rules." Rob Rock and his band left no survivors, as they totally assaulted the crowd with their performance and they were unbelievably hot and the audience are left in awe inspite of the fact that Rob Rock had to deal with a swollen face because he had a bad reaction from the plane to a "root canal" that was done on his tooth before he left USA. He had to go to a German dentist for a check and prescription so the band had no sound check that day. Rob is so full of power on stage and his amazing screams reached even higher spheres as on his albums. Also, the gig was filmed for a home video release. If there is one concert show to see this lifetime, let "Rage Of Creation" tour be it. You haven't lived until you've seen Rob Rock live. The "Rage Of Creation" Tour last year continues with the following stops: January 26,
2001 The FBI in Winter Park Florida with THIN
LIZZY Stay tuned for more confirmed dates! The new Warrior "The Code Of Life" (NB 0601) album is coming out in February or March on Nuclear Blast Records. It's a heavier darker album and Rob Rock sing harder like he did on his 1986 M.A.R.S. Project Driver album. Rob Rock has a guest appearance on several songs of the new Tobias Sammet "Avantasia" album due out this month on AFM Records.
